Tesla is set to make PV panels in Buffalo NY
« on: October 17, 2016, 03:42:11 pm »
Is this the big product announcement that got rescheduled for Wednesday?

Tesla and Panasonic to Collaborate on Photovoltaic Cell and Module Production in Buffalo, New York
The Tesla Team October 16, 2016

Tesla and Panasonic have entered into a non-binding letter of intent under which they will begin collaborating on the manufacturing and production of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules in Buffalo, New York. Under this agreement, which is contingent upon shareholders' approval of Tesla’s acquisition of SolarCity, Tesla will use the cells and modules in a solar energy system that will work seamlessly with Powerwall and Powerpack, Tesla’s energy storage products. With the aid of installation, sales and financing capabilities from SolarCity, Tesla will bring an integrated sustainable energy solution to residential, commercial, and grid-scale customers.

The parties intend for Panasonic to begin PV cell and module production at the Buffalo facility in 2017. Tesla intends to provide a long-term purchase commitment for those cells from Panasonic.

The collaboration extends the established relationship between Tesla and Panasonic, which includes the production of electric vehicle and grid storage battery cells at Tesla’s Gigafactory.

JB Straubel, Chief Technical Officer and Co-founder of Tesla, said “We are excited to expand our partnership with Panasonic as we move towards a combined Tesla and SolarCity. By working together on solar, we will be able to accelerate production of high-efficiency, extremely reliable solar cells and modules at the best cost.”

Shuuji Okayama, Vice-president, Eco Solutions Company of Panasonic, added, “Panasonic PV cells and modules boast industry-leading power generation performance, and achieve high quality and reliability. We expect that the collaboration talks will lead to growth of the Tesla and Panasonic relationship.”

The continued partnership between Tesla and Panasonic is an important step in creating fully-integrated energy products for businesses, home owners and utilities, and furthers Tesla’s mission toward a sustainable energy future.

They will likely be bankrupt. Solar City recently laid off 100+ employees.

There's a long article about Solar City in this month's Men's Journal. Sounds like the only reason it was bailed out was because his first cousin was the co founder. So a nepotistic bail out.

Plus they are now under investigation by the government for potential fraud for inflating installs to get more tax dollars. It doesn't sound good.

The entire article sounds like how NOT to run a company

I'll come back here when the deal is done and the money is rolling in and we'll chat then.

Meanwhile, the announced deal where Panasonic fills out the GW Solar factory in Buffalo presuming the Tesla+Solar City deal goes through will vastly reduce the amount the combined company will have to shell out for capex, and replace that with a purchase agreement for all the panels that factory can produce.   Seems like another win-win for Tesla + Panasonic.    Solar City spent $200M to buy Silevo a few years ago and the factory deal with NY state was included in that deal.  Look like everyone gets a bit of something on the deal, NY state gets lots of high tech jobs, Panasonic turns a potential competitor to a supply agreement with combined Tesla+Solar City, and Tesla gets thousands of electricians across the US to help roll out charging infrastructure while installing the panels.

Dude...seriously? Don't hold your breath. Like the money that's not rolling in at Tesla? Like the money that's not rolling in at Solar City?

Why facking money are you talking about?

Oh...And the deal in Buffalo is also under corruption and racketeering federal investigation. Including Solar City's main contractor. Read up on the "Buffalo Billions" scandal. Oh..And the Buffalo deal is contingent on shareholders approving the merger. If Solar City isn't bankrupt...or indicted on federal fraud charges by then that is...

$100M profit for the latest quarter is actually the definition of money rolling in.
$400M on downpayments for $7B in pre-orders for their next product, yup, money rolling in.

$100M profit?  It was $22 million.  You Tesla fan boys even inflate Teslas own press releases!     And a large part of that was how they changed their accounting.  And the biggest part was selling carbon credits.  $139 million worth vs $39 million a year ago.  So the profit isn't really from the car making business. Plus, they didn't pay some of their bills..which helps with cash flow.  Smoke and mirrors....read up about it.

From another post:

First, Tesla changed the way they reported their accounting.
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-10-26/tesla-earnings-smash-expectations-after-dramatic-change-reporting-methodology

You can also see they didn't pay their bills (suppliers) this quarter!   Accounts payable quadrupled!  So that leaves more cash on hand when you don't pay your bills.  :o

There are many articles on this smoke and mirrors.  Read up and enjoy!!
