"I’ve often wondered why the other two Japanese luxury brands totally abandoned the luxury sport coupe market to Infiniti. Fear of the Germans? Too small a market? Apparently, Infiniti did have such concerns when the G37 was introduced in 2003."

G37 wasn't introduced here until 2007-2008 - before that was the G35. Also you probably meant "Apparently Infiniti did not have such concerns when the [G35] was introduced in 2003."

Still a very appealing package.

The sedan is looking long in the tooth to my eye, but that coupe still looks fantastic.

I'm anxious to see what the redesigned G sedan coming next spring is going to look like.

It's no spring chicken as a design, but I think it has aged well and is still offers a compelling mix of sport and luxury.  I happened to be driving one for a short while last weekend (G37x) - the push from that big V6 was most endearing.

...I hardly think so...  At least its predecessor, the G35 coupe had pleasing lines.  That was actually a beautiful coupe and I can totally see that competing with the Germans based on aesthetics alone.  This G37 thing looks like it's trying too hard.  Maybe equal to performance of the Germans, but that's where "equality" ends.  I would say the 328/335 coupe looks way better and so does the A5.  For $55K I can almost get an S5 and 335 x drive.  Why would I get the G37 at that price point?  No thanks.

I really like this car and agree that it is aging very well. In fact I like the idea of keeping well designed models around longer and tweaking them each year for improvements. I also agree that the g coupe is very good value...I'd consider it against the MB C coupe which has never really impressed me.

I really like the G35.  It has clean lines and looks fast standing still.  The interior is also a masterpiece of simplicity.   The G37, not so much.  The front looks too much like the sedan, which is, imo, one of the ugliest luxury/sport cars on the market.   The interior is still relatively clean and classy, but less so than the G35.  Since a new G37 costs well beyond what I would ever pay for a vehicle,  I'd be quite happy with a well cared for used G35, which I happen to like better anyway.

On another note, an aquaintance had a G35, but when a child came along he and his wife traded for a BMW 3 series sedan, for the obvious need of four doors.  He doesn't like it nearly as well as he did his G35.  Nor would I.

I still think a G37S is the way to go in this lineup. The money you save and the weight savings would make it the one for me. My neighbor across the street has a G37X and even with snow tires he was getting stuck everywhere when it snowed, even with AWD, the car is too low for winter anyways so why bother with AWD??

In Manitoba where it's always windy we mostly deal with ice and snow-packed road conditions so AWD with snow tires is absolutely the way to go. Winter driving in AWD cars w/snows is actually super fun here...deep snow on the roads is only an occasional problem.

Looks are subjective, and you can't deny that G37 lineup doesn't provide more car for the money when compared to its German competitors.

I have nothing against the 335i or S5, both are lovely cars :)

OK, so for the most part it is concluded that the Fiat 500 is more fun than a bouncy castle full of puppies. I've heard that Fiat doesn't have the best reputation for reliability - is this enough to put a rain cloud on all the fun? Given that this is Fiat's first entry into our market in quite some time, there isn't really much to go by...

Missed the target dude. While I'm here though, good question about reliability. THough I think you'll get a better answer by looking at what happened with their products in Europe over the last 5 years than remembering the Fiats we used to see around here decades ago.

I deny exactly that.  The G37 does absolutely NOT provide more car for the money.  At best, it's a near-competitor.  Neither does it provide an interior where I would want to sit in.  And whether you are paying $55K or $60K, it's a moot point at that price range.  Yes, looks are subjective, but most people prefer the old G35 anyway.  It looked better and could at least compete price wise.  This thing "subjectively" looks worse and since it costs about the same as the Germans coupled with the fact that it isn't very price competitive, once again, why would I buy it?  The old G35 for $45K - maybe.  The new G37 for $55K - I would have to be an idiot.

How much car it provides for the money will be different for everyone based on what their needs and wants are.  So your blanket statement doesn't fly.  Looks aside, as they are completely subjective like you mentioned, the G37 does indeed offer more for your money for some people than a similarly equipped 335i xDrive Coupe.  I similarly equipped 335i xDrive will cost you $66,209 before taxes.  I dunno about you, but a lot of people consider $11k to be a pretty decent chunk of change.

There will always be car buyers wanting the brand perception of the roundel and willing pay for it, others won't.  For those that don't care, the G offers a lot when compared to a similarly equipped 335i or A5.......and again depending on what your priorities are.

You can get into a G37 in Coupe or Sedan for ~$47K CDN.  The BMW 335i base is ~$6,000 more expensive.

The BMW is not $6K better IMO.....

Everyone will have their own idea of what better is.  I personally don't see the base Bimmer being worth the extra $6k either over the base G.......BUT I can totally see why someone would pony up the extra cash for one.  It's all a matter of personal preferences.  I definitely don't see the Bimmer worth $11k more in this specific example......but again some will.

Funny how I didn't see you saying this in the Cadillac ATS thread......where depended on how optioned, the ATS could be $5,000 MORE than a BMW 3 Series.... ::)
