Jeep, checking out the Wrangler Unlimited (the 4-door), currently $4K off plus the employee/affiliate discount. Thinking about either one of those or the QX50. Although I checked out the QX50 yesterday and the reviews weren't kidding, it is really close-fitting inside, and the rear seats are really suited for children. Maybe just keep the GLI...

Subaru, checking out the Forester. The old CRV keeps giving trouble. Forester seems the most similar replacement.

Both the Mini Cooper and the Ford Focus 1,0 litre websites.

What's annoying is that I already wrote off the Mini 5-door as "too small" and the Driver Assistant package is not available in the US (watered down car for 'murricans). And yet I'm still drawn to it somehow.....

Was on the VW site today. Jetta comfortline now has a sport package available.

Bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive Front-light System (AFS)
Darkened tail lights
LED Signature Daytime Running Lights (DRL)
Rear spoiler
7.5J X 17" alloy wheels
Alloy pedals
Multifunction trip computer: Featuring trip time, trip length, average trip speed, average trip fuel consumption, current fuel consumption, distance to empty, speed warning and alternate speed indicator (MPH)
Piano Black accent surrounds for instrument cluster, gear shifter and radio
Ambient interior lighting
Sport suspension

Not bad for $2550. hmmm

I spent a bit of time on the Subaru website, looking at both the Outback (3.6R) and WRX with CVT, and reading reviews. I absolutely hated the CVT in the rental Dodge Caliber that we had in Hawaii. SWMBO doesn't really seem interested in her own Wrangler.

Man darf träumen, ja? (One can dream, right?)

Just a smattering of options.

Didn't know that...they should add a similar package for the Golf.

Can Volvo ever get their web stuff working correctly?  I click on build XC90 which starts at $60K and before clicking on anything its already at $78K. WTF?

Is it just me? I'm now trying to build a V60, haven't click on any options. Click to the Powertrain tab which shows T5-Drive E and $40,200 but at the top right it shows MSRP of $44,700.

It's selecting a higher trim level. It's sort of backwards. You should select the powertrain and trim level first but for some reason the trim level tab is one of the last ones.

The biggest issue with their new configurator is that it doesn't show you the difference between trim levels - it just shows a bunch of stuff that is standard on each one which makes it very difficult to compare.

You are right. It just added a few random options to start with instead of giving you a base car. Stupid Volvo. Does anybody verify how these things work before making them live?

VW Golf TDI

Long summer trips get me thinking about that TDI fuel economy and long distance between fills. Now that I moved further away from Lake Placid I can't make it on one tank anymore.

It's sooooooooooooooooooooooo good.  Get a manual wagon, put your bike and camping gear in the back.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...
