What to do with an unwanted hot tub.
« on: September 25, 2016, 09:22:18 pm »
So my parents bought a house. It has a hot tub. Probably pretty much brand new.

From what I can tell it is electrically heated rather than gas if that matters and its about 15 feet away from the house itself in a sort of Cabana thing. Pretty nice setup.

Can't see them ever using it and would rather recover the space in the Cabana for some other use. Is there a clever way to get rid of this thing? Does it have any value on Kijiji? I have no idea how to deal with these or even how to winterize it.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

If its almost new, a decent brand than it certainly has value. They aren't cheap.

Kijiji, facebook swap and buys will get it sold.

It has value, look around to get an idea of pricing and someone will take it off your hands for a nice profit.

As for winterizing, best thing is to keep it running.

^LOL.

Kijiji - but we warned these things are a royal PITA to move. If they're not ready to sell it right away just cut the power to it and drain it, suck out the lines with a shop vac and then close it up.

Oh, right, you're in Ontario.  Not everyone has an F350 and massive utility trailer out there...

Our house came with a big Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom.  We needed the space; it had to go.   I took it out myself and put it beside the street with "Free" sign on it.  It was gone in 24 hours.  Used hot tubs are like jewelery; they can be assessed high but selling is subject to disappointment.  For us it was better to give it away than to spend weeks trying to sell it.

Of course, you could always turn it into a garden fish tank.

Seriously though...When we moved our hot tub from the in-laws place to ours (they gave it to us....apparently we were the answer to the OP's question) I had 3 guys and a GMC 2500 HD (press truck) and it still seriously sucked. Granted, it's a fairly big tub (8 people I think), but still.

Funny you mention that; I was one of the leads on that project at CT back in the day. The chassis is actually still sitting in our shop area and I've been eyeing that 6.0L LS engine for a swap into either the Sonoma or Camaro.

Amazing GIF

mmret, there's a pretty big market out there for used tub resellers.   I gotta think you could find a local one on kijiji pretty quickly.   Newish, full size (8x8) tubs can still fetch $4k or so from those guys, so I presume you could pocket 1 or 2k at least selling it.   And obviously get them to handle taking it away.
