these are dirty cheap in the used market - where else can you get a midsize 2013 for ~$14k?...might be a good buy for a family in need to replace their clunker without breaking the bank.

This thing is a POS and the only vehicle worse than it is it's stablemate Dodge Avenger.  They are shockingly bad vehicles that are outclassed by sub compact cars.  I shake my head every time I see someone driving one of these as they clearly didn't test drive anything because if they did they wouldn't have ended up with this POS.

I disagree, while I agree this is a car I would never, ever, EVER...E-V-E-R, purchase with my own money, for the vast, uneducated driving masses, its perfect. You get lots of options, a decent V6, car is decently big and it costs the same as a supersized big mac meal. Yeah, for anyone who actually likes cars, this car is so far from what they would want. For the average person, this thing is a godsend, shiny new car with a bunch of buttons and a warranty for thousands less than its competition...boooyah!! I would never buy one, but I know lots of people Id recommend this car too......just splurge on the extended warranty....because Chry. Co.
Lighten up Francis.....

Yeah, the V6 in this thing is a gem!

Good car, unfortunately, it just screams 'rental'!!!  I wouldn't ever by one, but I also wouldn't call it a bad purchase!

Well, I agree this thing isnt on par with an Audi for interiors or as exciting as an Alfa on the outside, this thing does exactly what it says on the box. That whole "imported from America" crap notwithstanding, its a pretty good deal.

I've driven a rental Avenger.  Not a great car but it certainly isn't the worst I've ever rented either.

I stand by my assessment of POS.  Yes it's my opinion but have you read a single article that praises how good it is at anything.  I would be ashamed of myself to recommend such a vehicle to someone.  Sure it's an improvement to some, simply because they drive something like a G5 or ford Pinto, but compared to todays new vehicles, the 200 and Avenger are shamefully bad.  I would be ashamed to be a part of developing such a crappy vehicle.  Now the new one is so much better.  I've test drove both and the difference between them is night and day (old 200 & avenger, and new 200).  Kind of like how the Caliber was a mega POS and the new Dart is light years better.

Remember the days when the domestics actually made half decent and sort-of interesting cars?  I'm thinking here of the 2001-era Pontiac Grand Prix and Grand-am, and the Chrysler LH cars (Intrepid, Concorde, etc).

The Grand-Prix GT especially, was a nice mix of comfort and sportiness, and had an engine (the 3.8 ) that just wouldn't die!  And THEN they strapped a Supercharger on it!  Yeah 240hp pales in comparison to today's modern v6's, but at the time that thing was FAST!

I think they're much more interesting now. They've got everything from the Fiesta and Focus ST, to the 707hp Challenger, ATS, CTS and C7 Corvette.

I guess I'm talking of the more mainstream family sedan variants, charger and 300 notwithstanding (those are seriously cool cars)

The impala and Malibu are just boooring, crappy cars!

A person might be able to argue that the Impala is boring, but it isn't crappy. It's currently the highest rated conventional sedan in CR ratings.

With its 2014 redesign, the Chevrolet Impala has been dramatically transformed from a woefully uncompetitive and outdated model -- one that was to be avoided even as a free upgrade at the rental-car counter -- into a thoroughly modern and remarkably enjoyable car. This phoenixlike rise has propelled it from the bottom of our large-sedan ratings to being one of the top-scoring cars we've tested. And in the process, it's now reclaimed a stature befitting such a classic nameplate.

[snip]

Overall, the Impala is now a world-class sedan that outscores luxury-brand sedans costing $20,000 more.

I  wouldn't want one, but I know several people who have them because it is so affordable both new and late model used and has factory warranty you wouldn't get on more expensive/better used cars for the same price as they'd be off warranty by then.

the 200 and avenger i have no problem selling to people... friends or otherwise... at least 2011 and newer.. the older ones were worth every bad review and harsh critic's put downs...

we sell a lot of them to older people... and the more loaded up ones are great for parents to buy their kids... not so flashy, not so pricey, top safety pick +, lots of cool features, more room inside than most comparable cars, and i'm sure i'm alone here, but i never thought the 200 or avenger looked all that bad.

only thing i'll add for those looking at these, a non-rental is worth quite a bit more... both money and just peace of mind. if you find one that is actually a "chrysler executive" car rather than daily rental (and don't get fooled by jackass dealers saying it was a company car but making you sign next to daily rental) it's a good bet. some employees got these cars as their daily drivers... those are usually MUCH better cared for, and you can get them a year old or so with usually much lower kms than a rental counterpart.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now
