Used Vehicle Review: Acura TSX, 2004-2008

The TSX has been very solid reliability-wise, but there are a few minor things to be aware of, says Chris Chase.

Always had a soft spot for this car - with a manual transmission of course.

My buddy had 2 of these and they were both nice cars.  I think he had to replace the radio/nav unit in the first one ( which was real exp.) but he liked still.  The main problem for me with these cars is the size.  Not bad in the front but tight in the back.  And having to buy premium is a pain.   My brother in law (who's from Europe) has the Euro Honda Accord, only difference is they use a 2.0 from the Acura CSX.  Pretty much identical save for some nicer leather and added dash bling in the Acura.

I always like this car too.  I had the chance to try it out at Mosport just before it was released.  At the time, Acura Canada put on an event event for recent new Type-S owners.  I had bought my RSX Type-S less than a year previous, I got one of the 10 spots that Camco Acura was given for the event.

We have a 2004.  Bought it with ~55km in Jan 2008. It has 135km now - the centre console lights went out a few months ago (fixed under warranty), and our driver's door actuator JUST died 3 days ago. We ordered the part ($45) and will install it soon. Other than that, car runs like NEW. Gotta love that silky smooth 2.4L.  ;D

Interesting that design and manufacturing deficiencies, like moisture inside headlight assemblies, are a safety matter in the U.S. but not here. Speaks poorly of Honda Canada's reputation for quality and integrity.

"For comparison, a 2004 Honda Accord EX-V6 with the hard-to-find manual-transmission option is worth$10,950"

I did not realize there was a 2004 Accord EX-V6 Sedan with a manual???  I thought it was the only the 2007 Sedan that had the manual.

Maybe he meant the Coupe, which should not really be compared to the TSX.

I've always liked these TSX's.  Such a clean, taut design without being dull.

If they had the wagon here it would be my next car.  No question.

Wonder if you could import a new or slightly used TSX wagon from USA.

No manual in the new wagons, sadly.

This car was my second choice other than the Acura TL. Though its a smaller vehicle, I've test driven it and it goes. I thought the interior would be small but it is quite roomy. Also its good on gas with the four cylinder engine. ;D

Killing gradually Integra and after that RSX, Honda went upscale with TSX. Car is better for everyone coming from EL or the two just mentioned. Using premium is a final nail in the coffin of affordable Acuras from '90s. Now, different generation Acura fans are behind the wheels and figthing germans is tough. Acura is not where it was before, but far from what the Honda management wants it to be...

Bang on.  Great design (which has aged very well), and the best-feeling manual transmission I've ever driven (of course, I haven't driven an S2000, RX-8, or miata...so I'm not saying it's the best M/T out there).

I still like the 2009+ design, but not as much as the 2004 1st gen.  How have the sales numbers changed over time?

I have always liked the previous-gen TSX, including the tasteful and refined interior. I find all too often automakers can come up with a pleasingly simple exterior and then ruin it with too many buttons or controls. The TSX was a nice combination of simplicity and refinement, IMO.

Our TSX will be 5 years old this fall.  Except for squeaky windshield wipers, she has been flawless to date.

The premium gas doesn't make a big difference in $...  And it's a pretty fuel-efficient car.  We just zaino'd it last weekend, we really love the design, think it will age well...

Being a car nut, I'm constantly tempted to change cars.  But with this one, I. just. can't. do. it...

Here's a recent pic.

Nabbing an clean 07/08 model at the prices suggested in the article would be a good deal imo.

Rattles aside I haven't had much issue with mine. Current problems are only cosmetic and aren't causing me much headache.

Engine is still super smooth and you can beat the TC highway fuel economy rating with hardly any effort (gogo 0.27 cd)

The 04-08 TSX is a great looking car, one of Acura's last good ones IMO.  Strangely enough, I saw more of these Euro Accords in my trips to Europe than I do here in Canada.  IMHO, the early to mid 2000s is when Acura's products looked fantastic.  Anyways, great car for sure.

Yup.  When IQ bought her IS300, it was between the Lexus and the TSX.

My neighbor has one from 2004 with the sport package and a M/T. Went out driving with him one day.... I probably don't sit in the right passenger seats but the TSX is one very smooth and pretty fast sedan. For the 200hp that it says it has... very impressive. A friend also has a newer TSX which I thought was equally cool but it was a bit more sedate and refined than the previous one. Both have their upsides but the old one is a very impressive design that appears to be aging well.
