Another suggestion is swapping to synthetic oil.

I'd definitely do that.  Especially so in an air-cooled bike.

Thinking about this I thought back on my riding..and I very rarely put my bikes in neutral.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Just hold the clutch at a red light then? I know on cars you aren't supposed to do that is it wears out the throw out bearing. But bikes not a big deal then?

Yes...because I was always cautious that the car behind me wouldn't stop.  So if I needed to move..gear was already engaged and ready to move.

To be fair, I didn't do a ton of city driving...so people might use neutral plenty more than I ever did.

On one of my bikes, it was easier to find neutral from 2nd rather than from first.

On the Ottawa Safety Council riders training course they teach you to hold it in while in 1st at stops in anticipation of getting rear-ended by a cager, this way you can evade in a relatively quick manner.

EDIT: Whoops he beat me to it  ;D

That's one thing I like about ICBC, they insure EVERYTHING.

Same with MPI, but motorcycles are expensive to insure.

No worries.  Can't post enough about a potential life/accident saver.

Agree about leaving in 1st for shorter stops. At very long lights, I may drop it into N if there is already a stopped car behind me. But generally for most of the time, I leave it in 1st and check the mirror with some frequency for reasons of sécurité.

Or you could just filter........  >:D

That's illegal here (Ontario)..and I suspect they could lump that into "street racing" if they were so inclined.

Both my bike engine race cars (Radical and Stohr) were a huge pain to get into neutral.  Usually had to clutch in and out a few times if the engine was off.

If it was running, move forward and back a bit, click, click click click click click OH neutral!

I thought Neutral was only used for warming it up really, leave in 1st at the lights.

I wouldn't filter anywhere where it's not legal, the drivers either side of you won't be used to it and could do something stupid.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Oh....and don't filter through slow moving traffic like you are in a Mission: Impossible movie, I need to see you to react
