This is less than a one minute drive from my house.

Or if you wanted to spend closer to $500k, this is also on the same street less than a minute from where I'm at.  Beautiful place!

If I were to truly retire, Kelowna would be a contending destination. Spent a fair amount of time there and quite like the area.

My wife and I have been talking a lot about this week and she has made a good suggestion. Some place along Georgian Bay between Meaford and Collingwood. Golf, hike, bike, swim, ski, and boating........its only an hour and a half away from YYZ

That area is in the snow squall belt.  Not so good trying to get to YYZ in winter.

Seems kind'a pricy up there as well. One of my Sisters sold her MIL's condo there for $800K back in 2010. Nice setting, on the water, near the hills, Admirals something or other...

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Our problem Snowy is that there is a shitpike of retiring Boomers ahead of us that are driving up prices before we retire. The leading edge Boomers have already started retiring.

That would be me.   Born late December 1945 makes me one of the first.   I must say I am glad to be at the bleeding edge for this. I retired in 2006 at 60..  We downsized to Guelph...in fact if we had stayed in TO until 2013 we would have made more money on our mouldering Victorian in Cabbagetown but not had to pay proportionally more in G. Anyway  I think we got it near enough right.
Some of our plans have been disrupted by mrs tpls leg ceasing to function properly but then we are not 25 any more.

I am totally convinced that the big trick is to have enough money and exactly zero debt...just like your retirement spreadsheet Snowman.. We have managed that with enough to last until we are >95.  We don't have any kids and not really any living relatives. We have already decided on which good causes any left over money goes to when we kick it.  As a science nerd my share goes to the Perimeter Institute.

It's all about income and liquidity in retirement, your lifestyle will follow.
I love it when a plan comes together.

No desire or intention to live on the water. Lots of nice places for half of that. Plan to spend the money on traveling and a few nice cars.

Lots of them will be moving into facilities with daily care or worse as their health fails in the next 5-10 years IMO.

We are doing the same exercise right now, well the accountant wife is.  Not sure what are number is yet, but we also want to have a decent budget up-front for travel, for about 10 years or so.

Sell your house in Oakville, move to NB, and save even more money!   ;D

You bring up a good point, in NB and NS you could buy nice for $500k

$500k would get you a LOT of house here.  $300k would get you an extremely nice place.

Same here, and rather nice winters to boot!  Can ski in the morning (Mt Washington), golf in the afternoon.  There is Comox and Nanaimo airports for pretty good access to places, and some nice driving roads.  Down side is the ferry.  Housing prices here have been stagnant since 2008/09.

Not sure about Kelowna; it is a mecca for retired easterners but I really do not like it much, that entire Okanagan area has changed a lot in the last 20 years.

I should mention our plan is to retire to Nanaimo, probably the Departure Bay area with a water view but not waterfront.

If you are up towards Prince Edward county you'd then go to Ottawa or Montreal to fly out depending on where you are going or even to Plattsburg/Burlington.

Yes lots to think about and it is our intent to be away in a warm place Dec-Mar. I found a few lakefront building lots west of Meaford, $300k....yikes. My max budget is $600k for a retirement place, I would prefer $500k so I could get that 911  :)
