I was catching them,yes.

I wonder if that's what caused you to lose momentary focus on your riding?

Tough to say.

Am glad you'll be OK though.

I think you're right, I think I was racing them, not the track and I muffed it. I think I was too hot through ten as a result. I'm still dissecting it.

I know I cocked up, still trying to figure out how.

I think you have it, TBH.

Momentary lapse of concentration.  I think if you had more experience, probably not an issue.  But as a first timer, you really need to stay very, very focused because this is so new, fast, different, exciting, fun, etc.  Lots to easily distract the mind.

This is why one of the few suggestions I made was riding you own race.

Anyways...this is a learning moment for you.  I guarantee 100% you're a better rider next time out.

So you have that going for you anyways.... ;)

How's the wife feel about all of this?

The wife is grumpy but relieved. I think she expected worse.

Hard to tell on backwards video.

But if you were racing the bikes then ya.   Race the track,  everything else will come to you.

I always tell my students to ignore the cars on track,  concentrate on your driving and speed will come and you will catch them.

The moment you start trying to catch someone you make mistakes.

The opposite is true,  if you watch the guy behind you,  guaranteed they will catch you,  if you keep focused forward eyes up and far ahead you will be faster.

All true.  But much easier to say than do.

Just like meditating.  Seems so easy to do...but it's quite challenging to do properly.

Didn't say it was easy.

Agreed, and the moment Jacob start fixating the hay bales instead of the track his fate was sealed.

Looked like classic target fixation. Everyone's done it. Spectator's usually say, "why didn't he just turn?"  ;D

Hopefully the injuries heal up quick!

Yup.  Had my share of get-offs, and it happens.  Can only go on the video, but based on that I'd say you did over-cook the bend, maybe a little early apex and then when you realized it, your eyes saw the bales, and well, that's where you went.

I had a hilarious crash once on a motocross bike where I saw my sponsor waving to me from the corner and so I rode right off the berm and nearly ran him over!  Luckily, nothing hurt other than my pride.  After a few minutes even he thought it funny.  And he promised not to wave anymore during a race.

I have to laugh at your injuries, sorry.  I had a crash on a road course and broke my middle finger, my foot and a bunch of ribs.  Hands and feet!  They're out there waiting to get smashed up!  Unfortunately, my wife saw the ambulance racing out to get me (I'd rag-dolled for some distance) and thought I was dead.  It was my last road race.  To be fair, I was also realizing that I wasn't Freddy Spencer and was rethinking the career path anyway.

That footpeg through the boot thing was nasty. Not a great place on the foot for a piece of metal to slice across.
