I have seen exactly 1 Pacifica on the road.

The new Kia Sedona is definitely a hit. Those things are everywhere.

The Pacifica came out in March, sales through to end of September they have sold 1,422 units; in the same period the Sedona has sold 3,152 units.

How many Grand Caravans sold in same period?

Delusional move by FCA to price these this high.

^x a billion.  WTF were these guys thinking ?  Kinda like Blackberry coming out with their last 2 phones at prices comparable to the iPhone.  Fack, if you want market share, price these things like dirt so everybody will buy em.

american numbers are pretty good on it though... but they have had these lower trims from the start and the pricing isn't as crazy, plus they have been really aiming toward leasing them down south.

^^ yeah, 2nd best selling minivan, a few hundred units behind the Sienna.

I agree, it starts at a decent $28k in the US, much more in line with what I'd expect this to cost in an entry level model.

Interestingly enough, Grand Caravan sales are also up significantly in the U.S. this year, with more sold in the first nine months of 2016 than in all of 2015.

I wonder if this is partly due to previous Town & Country customers coming over to the Grand Caravan rather than buying the more expensive Pacifica.

The Pacifica LX at $37,995 is optioned similar to the base model Sienna ($33,420) and Odyssey ($30,790).

Pacifica Touring ($39,995) is optioned somewhere between Sienna base and LE ($36,745), and Odyssey SE ($32,890) and EX ($35,890).

When you look at Pacifica Touring-L ($43,995) though, it's optioned similar to the Sienna SE ($40,235) and Odyssey EX-L ($42,890)

So Chrysler needs to put $5,000 on the hood to at least put it in the realm, $8,000 to make it competitive. Depending on trim level.

The LX, Touring, and Touring-L in the US is $28,595, $30,495, and $34,495 respectively and all priced below like Sienna and Odyssey trims there.

I just can't imagine anyone with any inkling about the market and brand ratings to buy this ahead of the Toyota or Honda.  Even at the SAME price, the Pacifica is going to cost you a LOT more thanks to depreciation.

FCA is on crack.  Bad crack.

There's a LOT more money in the US so they have more cash for more expensive cars - despite what the Cdn media likes to spew out that US living standards have or are declining...my sister has lived down there since the late 80s.  Her and everyone she knows seems to do better than most folks folks in Canada... and they've recovered very well since 2007.. consider that wages have increased since then but the price of their homes are on avg 1/8th of the GTA and Vancouver, houses (add Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria even Mtl to that list to a lesser extent).  It amazes me how much disposable income the middle-class has there (forget the upper classes!)

Are you comparing similar types of cities?

Not a chance. Maybe if we're talking about cities like Dallas and Houston, but certainly not any sizeable city on the coast.

The U.S. is also just a much more competitive market. Lower interest rates, much cheaper leases, etc.

It really depends on who your sister has as friends/neighbours.
While the American economy has been growing more rapidly than most nations, including Canada, a smaller percentage of those middle class households is sharing in that prosperity. Income inequality is at its highest level (in the US) since 1928.

Lower taxes definitely help...! We will have even less by 2025 with carbon tax + additional CPP. We need the conservatives back in place to make sure Canada will still be competitive.

I did a couple of comparisons recently and in some states income taxes are not dramatically different than here. In fact the effective rate for my income is higher in Maine than in NB.

Obviously, being able to write off mortgage interest helps and sales taxes are lower. But some places have insane property tax rates to offset low state income taxes.

Every once in a while we get sick of the cold weather (not in the last couple of years as the winter was/is not so bad) and do a calculation on take home pay if i were to make the same amount of money in Texas.
It think it was about 100$ more in a biweekly paycheck compared to ontario. Said that the cost of living is much lower there. 600K will buy me a 4000 sq ft house with a pool, cars and groceries are much cheaper..

Americans spend 20% of their income on health care.  People forget to include those costs when comparing tax burdens.
