Window Chip and speckles
« on: May 19, 2016, 04:27:19 pm »
My windshield has a ton of speckles it accumulated over the years and I noticed a small chip about 2mm diameter, on the passenger side of the windshield.
I would like to get rid of the speckles and fix the chip together, does anyone know a best way other than replacing the front windshield?

There is glass polish out there, any place that specializes in car restoration should have it. Is your windshield really expensive??
Lighten up Francis.....

Does it actually work??  I'd love to make my windshield mint again.

Yeah, but from what I have heard there is a very fine line between making it like new and needing a new windshield. Beauty part is, since you are not trying to redo the back window of your 67 Barracuda, if you screw up, no big deal, get new windshield.

If you have a DA polisher, you could purchase some CarPro CeriGlass and try that on at a mild speed and ensure that the polisher is always moving to prevent any hazing to the windshield....

Otherwise, you could have the chips professional repaired to prevent them from getting bigger.

I have set up an appointment to have the chip looked at by a local Speedy Auto Glass next week.  It's so small that I may not have to spend the $90+tax that they quoted.

For the speckles, I don't have any equipment so I don't really have a DYI option, other than using windex+razor blade and clay bar method that I had seen on Youtube a while back.

I went to Speedy Auto Glass and they fixed the chip under 'comprehensive' coverage of my TD insurance policy.
Upon inspection, the technician noticed a larger stone chip in the lower part of the windshield that would have developed in to a large line over time.  :o
That was also fixed at no cost to me.  They vacuumed the front of my X in the process, too.  :D
Needless to say, I'm glad I took the time.   ;D
