Don't you need new cars sales before you can have a CPO program  ???  ;D

the 10 year warranty is only valid to the original owner...if they trade it or sell it, poof.

My boss just sold his 08 Lancer GT which had its engine's rod bearings go and replaced with a used engine, for $6500. He was offering to sell it to us for $2,000, but then he paid $2,500 for a used engine installed. Kinda kicking myself for not buying, fixing, then selling.

My wifes coworker had a 2010..2011 Lancer. Anyways, the engine cratered right around the 100K mark. My wife dragged me to his house for a proper diagnosis....there was a huge hole in the side of the block where I guess either piston 2 or 3 had been. Yeah, he sent the car to pick and pull.

Wow... wouldn't the warranty still be in effect?

My boss admitted to going 25,000km between oil changes once.

Apparently there was something about that he never took care of it and modifications......I don't really know the details. He had a fart can and some Walmart performance cold air intake.

Thread tangent alert, but somewhat on topic thanks to the discussion:

I saw a guy in a pick up stranded in the middle of a major access road at an intersection, with another truck in front of it nosed up, trying to boost it.  I pulled off and headed over on foot to see if I could lend a hand, maybe pushing it aside or helping to get it going.

As I walked up, I noticed a pool of oil and parts of the both the block and oil pan on the ground.  Uh, guys, boosting won't help.  They told me I was stupid, so I left.

I've made that mistake, and been corrected, on this site.  The warranty is transferable, at least in Canada.

We leased a 2004 Lancer Sportback from new and it was flawless....father in law bought it in 2008 and still has it with 230,000 KMs.  The A/C went - not sure what - but otherwise regular maintenance.

the 5 year warranty is transferrable, but the 10 year powertrain warranty (the one that is heavily advertised) is only available to the original owner...fine if you keep the car for 10 years, but not sure how many people actually do that any more.

Not sure about that vs Canadian consumer laws...

Funny thing with the Mitsus: expectations are so low that they surprise when you drive them. In two 12-car comparos we did, two Mitsus ended up with solid 6ths - Outlander (top trim) and Lancer (2.4 awd in a winter test). The Lancer felt like a new 2004 when climbing aboard, yet that old-school approach (or just "old" period  ;D ) had advantages - great visibility, easy ingress/egress, hydraulic power steering. And that thing was a hoot in the snow, unlike the over-nannnied Subaru who refused to play.

What exactly is this new program adding?  A more comprehensive inspection, shouldn't they do that anyway?  No mention of lower financing rates (which is usually a major draw).  The warranty isn't extended any more than it was when new, which is something else people look for from a CPO program.

So basically, you get to pay more for a sub-par car that has gotten a decent inspection and no further benefits.  Seems like a brilliant way to boost sales.
