The LE sounds like a volume seller, but the CE already sounds nicely equipped for the price. The standard power windows will make the lack of A/C a bit more bearable.

yeah, I still don't understand why this would sell in any volumes when the base Corolla starts at $15,995 ($30 more than the LE 5MT) and gets better fuel economy, more space, LED headlights, and a slew of other benefits.  I just don't understand this class of car at all unless it starts at $9,998.

Besides from the obvious reason of some people simply preferring hatchbacks, keep in mind that a Corolla with air conditioning is actually $17,630. That Corolla also lacks cruise control and keyless entry.

We looked closely at the Yaris 6.5yrs ago when we bought the Corolla, and the Yaris made no sense to me.  Equipped with the "must have" options on our list (AT, AC, Cruise, power windows, keyless) there was a $700 price difference between the two cars.  While the Yaris had a slight (very slight) fuel economy advantage, the Corolla was much roomier inside with a larger trunk and was nicer to drive.  And yes, the Yaris is a typical Toyota in that it holds it's value well, but not as well as the Corolla.  Long haul, the operating costs of the Corolla are less.

Also, back then, the Corolla had significantly more safety features.  For the additional $700, it seemed insane not to buy the Corolla.

I still don't see the value.  At all.

In one thread you state that a $500 price difference between similar cars can swing a decision in favor of the cheaper car, yet here we're talking about spending $1605 less and gaining cruise control, keyless entry, and a hatchback body style, and you don't see why someone would choose the Yaris? Seriously?

I would agree, the top requirement for me, would be the fact it would have to be a hatchback before I would even consider it, which eliminates vehicles like the Corolla/Civic etc.

That's what happened for us - we went in looking at the Yaris as a cheap sedan option, but after pricing it out, the Corolla was about $1,000 more and we got substantially more car for it.

I still don't see the value.  At all.

Touche, salesman.  I've got nothing.  I contradict myself.  Bad Noto.
I speak from a position of a consumer where $1,000 means very little if there's value in that extra amount, but for the casual buyer wanting a cheap-as-f^ck mode of transport, $1,000 saved is a big deal.

It seems like there is a bit more separation between the Yaris and the Corolla now than there used to be. The Yaris isn't quite as barebones anymore.

Hatchback or bust! My consideration of the Corolla proper ended when the wagon version morphed into the Matrix. The Civic is off the list for the same reason: no hatch, no interest.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I agree...$15k should be the price for the top of line.

How do you figure? It's not as if any of the competition tops out at $15k.

Not a car I'd be caught dead in, but I tip the hat to Toyota for it's truth in model designations. "CE" = "Cheap Edition".
Since October 2015 the Junior PM has been in office.  Record mega-Billion deficits as he p*sses away our future.  An economy gutted. Stinky POTHEADS rejoice. We are going down the drain.

The Micra and Mirage are micro-compacts. The Yaris is quite a bit bigger, despite still being a small car.

Consider my brother paid about $22k for his Kia Rio5 SX with navigation package. But man is that a nice car to be in. The 20 to 30 year olds would rather be in a smaller optioned up car these days.
