Unhappy owner of BMW X1 2012 today.
Catastrophic failure of the N20 engine where the oil housing system has allowed seepage into the coolant system. The car is now completely undriveable.
Has 90k miles: warranty goes to 80k
Was told by BMW mechanic BMW is aware of the design flaw and quietyly changed out the parts systems from plastic to aluminum but issued no recall.
$2,300 repair bill.
Only warning was the Oil light warning on computer lit and said Add one quart of oil.
Mechanic read computer and did that........nothing else looked out of order until 7 days later and the light came back on along with a huge pile of oil/coolant mess on driveway.
All other service milestones were met previously as the computer directed.
Complete failure out of the blue without warning from the car.......and this is my burden to bear? On a 3 year old car? With a known design problem?
Called Customer Service Canada; tough luck for me!!
Who buys a luxury car to have a fatal failure at 90k??
Even PT Cruiser I had did better than this.
Anyone else going through this same issue? How did BMW handle your situation?
