If he was my kid I'd charge him $3K a month in room and board.

And I bet if I ever met this guy I'd punch him in the face within 30 seconds of him opening his smarmy mouth just for his complete lack of character and BS about how life is about the cost of the bottle of wine you're drinking.

I don't think his parents did the bang-up job he thinks they did.

You mean ever since I finished college I've been paying rent/mortgage like a fool when I could have been living in my parents' basement for free and living it up like this guy?  Man, I feel kind of embarrassed that I didn't think to become a mooch.

I am sure there are many Millennials like this. At least it appears he earns his money in a real job with real qualifications.

I think worse are the people in his age range who are just given the Platinum credit card by their parents and then ignored....spend what you like, don't bother about the bill.     Paris Hilton I suppose would have been a classic example

Agreed.

The whole living for free at your parents is very "moochie", but I'm not so bothered by the spend to limit lifestyle choice.  I'd have no problem with this guy's choices IF he were actually paying for rent and food.

The truth is most people live fairly conservatively, saving away for retirement, and then....are either bored by retirement or worse, have bad health.   The middle 40 years of their life zip past and they do little of excitement other than 3-4 weeks of vacation per year.  Better to enjoy every year of your life equally and just work literally to death.   Daring certainly, but not altogether repulsive.

However the above strategy doesn't work so hot if you plan to have kids.

What a vapid existence.

Sort of as an aside, I wonder how long it will be before pharmacies are automated? It would be easy to do. In all the years I've gone to a pharmacy, I think I've only spoken with a pharmacist once, and he just read me the notes that came with the medicine, which were already explained to me by the doctor.

As far as dispensing and inventory control, that's existing technology. I think the only reason it hasn't happened is pushback from the professional organizations.

My god, my BIL could have written that.  Totally his lifestyle, though on the East Coast.  Works hard, drives a new Benz, travels the worlds (he's up to like 85 different countries).....but lives at home rent-free and my MIL does his laundry and makes his bed.  He's 29.  The weird thing is that nobody but me seems to think this is ridiculous.

Obviously, the guys got it made.  When his parents croak, he inherits it and voila.  He didnt even have to buy a house!

We are the fools buying our own places with our own money while saving for retirrment.....  obviously.

His fancy lifestyle is completely subsidized by his parents. Good salary + no living expenses = a whole lot of spending money. Crowing over blowing silly money on fancy liquor sounds like a pretty vapid lifestyle to me but whatever makes him happy I guess. Parents should kick that boy out into the real world.

The parents are doing him a huge disservice by coddling him like that. Me thinks the real world will hit him like a bullet train when he has to step/be pushed out of the nest. Painful article.....  ::)

No kidding.  If they don't like how he lives, they don't have anyone to blame but themselves.

I'll admit I quickly read through the article but did it say that his parents are not happy?

So if the parents are more than happy with this arrangement, what is the big deal?

They might be happy but they are raising (raised?) a bit of a spoiled brat (IMHO of course). Certainly within their rights to do so I suppose. Not sure if the author understands that not everyone can have life he is selling as the ideal due to the fact that his parents are heavily subsidizing him.

Just playing devil's advocate here but is he spoiled? Sure the article paints a pretty good picture of this but lets face it, would the article get publish if they told you about the $10K/yr the guy donates to charities and the countless hours he volunteers?

More about a guy that spends a lot of money trying to live large.

I suppose what I find so off-putting to me personally is the underlying tone that drinking an expensive bottle of wine makes him better than me.

If my daughter wrote that I'd feel that I'd completely failed as a parent.   Different value sets, I guess.
