I like it better than the sedan.
Nice to see the ugly chrome bits taken off. too bad they added tacky black bits.
Should look better when the car is black I would think.

The rear profile reminds me of a CrossTour..........which is definitely NOT a good thing.

I think the shape is better than the Crosstour's but the details aren't great. I wonder if non-Sport models will look a bit cleaner.

Fantastic design! Looks modern and fun...I can see how the VW fan bois would hate it...the design is opposite to bland and square lol

If Honda could make another hatchback this size and still meet crash regs, I'd be first in line.

I agree. Sure, the rear end is a bit overwrought, but it's done in that distinctly Japanese/Manga style that, somehow, still kinda works. (same with the Lexus "Predator" Spindle Grille). If people are really after a blander design, Volkswagen has an excellent hatch they'd like to sell you (albeit with a 5-speed manual.) Anyway  let’s review:

- It's an actual civic hatchback

- it's got a turbo (no needing to wait for VTEC to kick in, yo)

- it's got a Honda-grade 6-speed manual (woohoo!)

- good quality interior (probably, we haven’t seen it yet of course)

- reliable and dependable

- Cheap to run

- not boring to look at

Seems like a winner to me and I’d strongly consider one. What I’d be most curious about is the overall length of the hatch vs. the sedan - for my needs, i’d want it at least ~176 inches - meaning skis can fit in on the diagonal.

Sure we have. No reason to think it will be much different from the sedan.

- It's an actual civic hatchback LIFTBACK

Fixed that for ya.  This isn't a hatchback.

Agreed.  How do the specs compare with the 1st-gen Mazda6 liftback?  They look to be very close in size.  Except aesthetically, where the 6 has aged very well, this Civic might need to become an acquired taste...

And nothing wrong with a liftback, I'd still take that over a sedan.

Considering the sedan already looks like a liftback, this should have been a proper hatch IMO.

So when does a hatchback become a liftback? I've always been unclear on this. I agree the sedan looks like it should've been a liftback from the get-go - too bad American buyers seem to equate "hatchback" with "freedom hater".

I think that definition is somewhat arbitrary but Wikipedia says the definition of a liftback is "where the rear cargo door is more horizontal than vertical, with a sharply raked or fastback profile." I think that's about right but the term liftback seems to have disappeared at some point.

The CrossTour looks better than the Civic hatch.  Yikes!

I dislike the design.  Seems too much like Predator vs. Alien.

Then it would also remind us of a Porsche.  Although I don't think it looks like either.

It looks like the Sport 6MT will get an additional 15 lb/ft of torque over the Sport CVT.
