" launching exclusively with the DSG twin-clutch auto (and a manual to follow)"

That would be true if we were talking about US models, here in Canada we will be getting both the auto and the manual right from the get go.

As much as I would like to think I'd go for the wagon with it's extra sleeperness and cargo capacity, I'd more than likely stick with the hatch back simply because it will be quite a few $$ less.  IF VW decided to bring this over it will be a couple of thousand for the extra wagon space but also more because it will more than likely only be offered with a DSG, plus there'd be the possibility that they'd only offer one version that is fully loaded with tech package.  So I would guess this Golf R Sportwagon, if it comes to Canada, will be starting around the $45,000 area.

Seriously cool ride.  I'd be so down with this.

It would be great to see this and the Subaru Levorg STi come to Canada (keeping my fingers crossed). Something more performance oriented than the economy versions that are slowly showing up. It'll make the decision much harder as to which one to purchase.

He's talking about the wagon model though. The European Golf R has both transmissions but the wagon is DSG only (for now).

If they would bring it here with a manual and with that lovely sunroof I'd have a tough time NOT getting one when my GTI lease is over.

Interesting choice of  235/35R19 rubber. Guy at work has 19" on his Journey Limited and tells me that the odd size is more expensive than a set of 20" rim/rubber replacements.

I'd like to see this blue colour live.

No, I was referring to the hatch, and was wrong as JohhnyMac pointed out. Manual and DSG bot available upon arrival, fixed in the article, as was some confusion about the large screen, which is an option, not standard for the upcoming hatch.

I am really itching to drive the manual. DSG is good, but almost too easy.

2017 The Golf Alltrack (fall 2016) list price = $84,200 CDN.    I thought that they got the first two numbers reversed, but no, that's the price they will be selling them at.  Guess Canadians are rich, right?

http://www.auto123.com/en/news/volkswagen-confirms-golf-alltrack-coming-to-canada/59980/

Pricing has been set. The base window stickers sports a $22,495 number and, once available, a loaded Alltrack to easily top the $40k mark (this, I'm assuming).

Bag of crack?

The article was from Dec. 2014, so they're talking about the base FWD wagon for $22.5k, which turned out to be correct. Don't think the Cdn. pricing for the Alltrak has been released yet, but I don't see why a fully loaded one wouldn't be over $40k. A loaded R is $43.5k, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Alltrak is close to that - yes, less HP, but premium for wagon.

That is still a long way away from the $82K the other poster was quoting. So ya, a bag of crack indeed.

The quote notes (and only from a few months ago) that ALLTRACK pricing (loaded) might top $40K.  I don't read that as "over $80K."

Anyone that thinks a Golf will be priced above the Audi line is smoking bad drugs.

A golf R estate starts at £33.6k the UK with the golf all track starting at £28.1 for a 2l TDI 6spd. I'd say the all track will be under 40k even with the TDI.

The Alltrak won't even have the TD hereI, at least not initially. A loaded 1.8T wagon is about $36k today. That would point to an Allroad being a bit under $40k IMO but we also need to consider that the '16 models have a newly available tech package which would push the price up by $2k or so.

i guess the whole issue of bringing the tdi 4motion is fitting the emission system with the 4motion/rear suspension set up.  you would think they will be forced to do this with euro emissions changing.  last i heard, the regular golf sportwagen and alltrack will be coming with 4 motion.

4motion will definitely be available on both the regular Sportwagon (this fall as 2016 models) and Alltrack next fall as a 2017 model.

trying to find out about TDI. We drove the TDI Alltrack, so the full review is coming shortly. not to give too much away, but it's pretty nifty.

TDI requires the beam rear axle in order to fit the urea tank so obviously no 4motion. But coming Euro regs necessitate urea in that market so it's something that will be fixed by 2017 or so.

WAIT! Are you seriously saying that I can go out and buy a Sportwagon 4motion TSI before the snow falls again. Damn.
