I'm looking forward to this review, especially real world fuel economy vs non-hybrid competition.

Just a recap:
Sonata (Turbo): 9.0 L/100km
Optima: 7.9
Camry (4cyl): 8.5
Altima: 7.5
Mazda6: 7.7
CC: 7.9

No pressure, James...

You missed CC (okay it's not identical but it's close to a passat) 7.9 (I actually dropped to 7.7 before returning it.

Looks like the exact same press car Greg Wilson just reviewed. With James' driving habits, he'll probably top that 6.3 l/100km easily.

So I assume you use the Turbo on the Sonata, and the 2.4L on the Optima.  Since the Turbo is the same price as a VW Passat TDI, it would be nice to through those numbers in too...

It seems hybrids put forum members to sleep...5 comments only at Day 2 !!

From Day 2, I get that I'm not the only one with flexible work hours  ;)

So Wing, you're racing a Sentra these days ?

-----------

218 km in EV mode  :o  this things does more e-miles per day than any affordable EV out there!

Really!? Why not pony up for the Spec V with LSD - bigger rims (not that you'd keep stock rims for racing but at least the suspension would be better tuned for track)?
My other Honda is an MP4-31!

Nice.  SR engines FTW.  You sure it's a VE and not a DE engine?  I am pretty sure they only offered DE in 2000-2001 B15s.  VE engines were only in certain JDM models.  Any plans to boost it or swap in the SR20DET?  Sure would be fast with a VET engine out of the JDM X-Trail GT.

Oh and SR > QR any day.  Way smoother engine and way more rev happy.  Plus early QRs had their fair share of issues whereas the SR has been rock solid and has been around since 89 with various changes over the years.  Early B15s didn't have the SE-R option.  Only came in 2002 which is also when they dropped the SR20 (which was only in the SE trim which was also dropped for 2002 IIRC).

It's a VE with LSD and a custom rear watts link suspension.

Nice! So you did a motor swap?  Those VEs with VVL really put out nice numbers in the upper RPMS.

How does it show? Is it firmer suspension or steering feedback or something else that makes it "fun" , like the car feeling lighter and smaller to toss around?

Firmer suspension that drives more sporty same with the steering it feels stiffer and more controlled.

Chassis feels stiffer too, could be tires making a lot of these differences actually.

how would you compare the three (which has regular gas stablemate) mid-size hybrid out there? i.e. Camry, Fusion, Sonata/Optima.
Do you prefer the 6-gear Sonata more?

Unfortunately is been awhile stove I drove them.  For me though I really like the fusion the most.  The tech in car also gives it an advantage
