If Jaguar ever reads this they'll probably take out a restraining order on Jacob.

This continues to be an extremely boring-looking car.  Very dull styling to say the least.

Reminds me of a Pontiac GTO or Vauxhal VXR8...Same type of dull.

This Jaguar is the last on the list of $100K+ cars I'd think of owning.  By a long shot.

Oh it's nice enough. Lack of master styling strokes, if that is the case, does not make for boring. Don't usually comment on cars like this because no family that I know could ever afford to own one, except maybe down the road a bit, slightly before the dump. I think though that eco-tech is possibly more mainstream up-scale now because you can't use the brute power anywhere that is meaningful.
I like the clean dash layout...but it reminds me of a Crown Victoria somehow...other than that it is a clean and un-fussy, beautiful effort.
Hey...I have the same colour and could probably arrive at the traffic lights just two blinks of the eye behind.

I think the car looks great, and sounds like a blast to drive.

Needs to lose the rear spoiler, though.

I love the looks.  Sure it lacks the "look at me!!" styling of some competitors but that sleeper look is perfect.  Minus the rear wing which looks a bit too boy-racer on an otherwise classy car.

I like the subtle look (minus spoiler)  it's clean and understated.
It's a car that would be fun to be sitting at the light and find youself next to something really flashy next to you and the guy giving you the "you're car is boring look"...  until the light goes green and you release to prowling powers of this jag and seeing said guy in your rear view trying to figure out what just happened.

Hate it. A Jag suitable for footballers and chavs who have won the lotto.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I'm with the design nay-sayers. Put your thumb over the grill on the cover photo and you have any-sedan...and the dash is vintage Lincoln. The Germans have better performance and luxury choices.

I think I saw a baby blue one this weekend taking off from a red light.  I think they look great other than the Chevy Cobalt looking speedometer gauge  ???

Great article Jacob, very well written and hilarious.....as for the car, meh. The exterior is almost forgettable and that rear wing is straight out of a 17 year old ricers "happy ending" dream. For me the E63 would be the one.
Lighten up Francis.....

I'd take an E63 wagon in a heartbeat over this.

Noto the editor, again:

Quote
The trunk space is cavernous – a full 500 L is available and the large wide opening swallows any number of things – in fact there was more room in this trunk then in the Evoque I had the week following and in a Volkswagen Golf GTI. Yes, you read that right, this sports sedan is more practical than a crossover or a hatchback.
than.

Quote
You can transport four adults in comfort, plus a bunch of their luggage.
...and from my experience with the FIL's 2011 Jag XF (5.0L N/A), the trunk is big, but the opening is short - i.e. the bumper comes up too high and the deck lid is too low.  We could not fit more than 2 suitcases in the trunk, whereas we could fit 4 of the same in our Forester's trunk (so volumes are not always tell-tale).  For such a big car, I found it to feel rather cramped for passengers and in the boot.  Oh, and as a Brit car, it's a boot, not a trunk. :P

Quote
This supercharged 5.0L V8 announces its 550 hp and 502 lb-ft capability with an orchestra of induction noise and exhaust pyrotechnics. It will launch this 1,970 kg family sedan to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
That the WRX with half the horsepower/torque does it in about the same amount of time shows that this porker needs to lose some weight.  I care very little about top-end speed (since I don't live in Dubai), but care much more about 0-30 and 60-100 km/h times, the latter of which this car does well.  The 0-30, however, isn't amazing.  Chalk it up to AWD, I would think.

Re: Looks
-I think the R-S touches make this XF FAR better than its more base-line trim brethren.  I don't care if it's 'safe' or 'boring' - it evoques () emotion from me so I'm ok with it.

Quote
Shockingly, I did better than that! I drove mostly in the city, and I did a lot of “that’s not an engine, THIS is an engine” throttle mashing, and still scored a 12.2 L/100 km for the week.
That is a little surprising.  The 5.0L V8 in the XF we had wasn't quite so thrifty.  In mostly city driving, we usually averaged around 13.4L/100km, though "S" was the only mode ever used.  If that supercharger is, indeed, that thrifty, then damn, Skippy!

Even the windscreen is heated.
BEST. FEATURE. EVER!!!  "Fog?  What's that?"  I saw nary a smudge on that beautiful windscreen, though the heating elements were 'visible' (not obtrusively so) when driving at night with oncoming headlights.

Love the design of those wheels - but 20" rims look like overkill to my eyes.  That same wheel design in an 18" rim would be perfect.

Reading this article got my thinking - I don't see a lot of XFs around, even though they've been on the market for quite a few years already.  But really, I don't see many 5-series, E-class, new CTS, GS, or any of the other luxury mid-size cars either (though I did see an A6 parked like an azzhat at the golf course yesterday!)

Luxury midsize S/CUVs though - RR, X5, ML, Q7 - seem to be everywhere.

I see 5 series and E class everywhere in my area.  I've seen a fair share of the new CTS as well. Not too many GS, probably because they look so much like the ES.

Not too many years ago, you could spot a Jag from a block away, TWO blocks away sometimes, like the gorgeous XKE I saw a couple of days ago. Now you can't tell a Jag even when it's sitting right next to you at a stop light.

All of the above for me. The XFR-S is priced close to the M5, E63S and RS7. The RS7 for example is a little more $$ but more enticing to me...so is the E63S.
