Noto the editor, again:
The trunk space is cavernous – a full 500 L is available and the large wide opening swallows any number of things – in fact there was more room in this trunk then in the Evoque I had the week following and in a Volkswagen Golf GTI. Yes, you read that right, this sports sedan is more practical than a crossover or a hatchback.

You can transport four adults in comfort, plus a bunch of their luggage.
...and from my experience with the FIL's 2011 Jag XF (5.0L N/A), the trunk is big, but the opening is short - i.e. the bumper comes up too high and the deck lid is too low. We could not fit more than 2 suitcases in the trunk, whereas we could fit 4 of the same in our Forester's trunk (so volumes are not always tell-tale). For such a big car, I found it to feel rather cramped for passengers and in the boot. Oh, and as a Brit car, it's a boot, not a trunk.
This supercharged 5.0L V8 announces its 550 hp and 502 lb-ft capability with an orchestra of induction noise and exhaust pyrotechnics. It will launch this 1,970 kg family sedan to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
That the WRX with half the horsepower/torque does it in about the same amount of time shows that this porker needs to lose some weight. I care very little about top-end speed (since I don't live in Dubai), but care much more about 0-30 and 60-100 km/h times, the latter of which this car does well. The 0-30, however, isn't amazing. Chalk it up to AWD, I would think.
Re: Looks
-I think the R-S touches make this XF FAR better than its more base-line trim brethren. I don't care if it's 'safe' or 'boring' - it evoques (
) emotion from me so I'm ok with it.
Shockingly, I did better than that! I drove mostly in the city, and I did a lot of “that’s not an engine, THIS is an engine” throttle mashing, and still scored a 12.2 L/100 km for the week.
That is a little surprising. The 5.0L V8 in the XF we had wasn't quite so thrifty. In mostly city driving, we usually averaged around 13.4L/100km, though "S" was the only mode ever used. If that supercharger is, indeed, that thrifty, then damn, Skippy!
Even the windscreen is heated.
BEST. FEATURE. EVER!!! "Fog? What's that?" I saw nary a smudge on that beautiful windscreen, though the heating elements were 'visible' (not obtrusively so) when driving at night with oncoming headlights.
