Topic: What is equivalent to 31 x 10.5 x 15 for trucks?

Hi,

Trying to look for replacement truck tires for my Pathfinder and searched and searched and can't find a definite answer to this.  Can someone tell me the equivalent tire size to 31 x 10.5 x15" within the same rim size, ie 265/70/15?  Why the difference in naming conventions?

265/75R15 would be the closest size for you, although still a little bit smaller than 31". We had 31x10.50R15s on our Xterra, and they were slightly (but noticeably) larger than the stock 265/75R15s.

If you want to stay with 15" rims, then that will pretty much be your only option. At least, according to this chart: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=53

As for the difference in naming conventions, one is an offshoot of P-metric sizing for passenger cars, the other is flotation sizing for light trucks. But to add to what SiRCivic stated, high floatation tires provide more floatation than P-metric tires.  Those are the tires you would use if you drive through a lot of sand, mud, or very deep snow, where you do not want the tire to sink.

(Also, "280/75R15" is not a P-metric size)

Since it amounts to the same thing in the real world (where one can only buy tires in sizes that exist), I think the actual equivalent is 267/77R15.

My old Dakota came with 31*10.5  on 15" wheels. The newer truck came with 265/70-16. These are a smidgen shorter but close. I would think that a 265/75-15 would be close if they exist.
