Last-generation Sonata loved for comfortable ride and upscale cabin, but pay attention to the steering and transmission on a test-drive.

A timely article as I'm shopping for a used car right now.  The Sonata is on the radar.

HOPE IT DOESN'T FALL OFF THE RADAR WITH IT'S SLOPPY HANDLING AND VAGUE STEERING!

Honestly the comments on that forum are really no different than other forums on other brands, a mix bag.

I have had HMC products most my life and finally bought the car I wanted, a 2011 Sonata.
It was bye far the worst car we ever owned so many small and larger issues.
The car was always dealer serviced here a break down of what I remember:
Tie rods replaced twice, sway links twice, srs computer replaced, dash gauges replaced, entire brake system redone due to to it no releasing the right front and left rear brake : all rotors, pads, booster and master cylinder.
Leaking tail light replaced (condensation), very poor heat in winter : even at -10c at 100 kmh it took 20 min to get to temp if you put the heat halfway and fan to high worse when -30 when you slow down or stop the gauge would drop to cold and the heat also. Replaced thermostat on way home the gasket had a sudden leak and saw the gauge starting to bounce around so pulled over and called roadside.
They were going to leave me there at -20 c b/c I was not far enough from home (65 km) they would only cover  room if 100km or more away.
They also would not pay overage for towing to nearest dealer which was 2.5 hours away so had to phone sis at 1 am and beg ( no credit card at the  time) .
Paint issues, the tail light kept rubbing the paint of rear fenders where the lenses come to a point. The trunk  edges some how kept rubbing top sides of rear fenders rubbing paint of there and trunk edge. They repainted twice still kept happening so they adjust the trunk which look horribly out of whack. Also the trunks inside lip where drain holes are kept pitting under the paint even after being redone twice.
I think the rubbing was body flex or a body alignment issue.
The dash a pillars sounded like styro foam, rear e brakes kept seizing and dragging  after three lube jobs so HMC finally replaced backing plates, all hardware cables etc.
The transmission when cold likes to flare and bang into gear on 2-3 shift..

Just a bad car lol
Traded the Sonata at 110,000 kms own a crv now, hopefully it will be  better
