God appears to be dead.  Or maybe he's just developing a beer gut.

In any case, the reliability problems - particularly the oil starvation - are a real shock.

I guess we have to expect every manufacturer, no matter how vaunted their past work, will fall off the wagon from time to time.

Cheers,
John M.

Toyota/Lexus lost the plot a decade ago. The Edmunds Forums were reporting falling quality and customer care in 2004, years before it hit the mainstream media.

Check out this LA Times feature article regarding the 2002- 06 Lexus ES.

Glad I'm not the only one who's noticed. This is what cost-cutting, and the quest for wider profit margins, does.

The really interesting thing will be to see if Hyundai finally comes out with a luxury brand and tries to do to Lexus what Lexus did to the Germans in the 90's

I had 3 toyota/lexus before(96 Aristo, 98 Aristo and 00 ES300), never experience the rattle and noise like this gen. GS.

Strange car. I like the look. However the reliability issues puts it in the same league as German luxury brands. And I will take an Audi over this any day as the design wise is much more appealing.
