I would doubt it is a catalyst converter problem. A loose cat makes noise on start up and shut down. Plus you should have a MIL on for catalyst efficiency if the cat has failed.

True.

Somewhat true.  I have seen it before where the inside of the catalytic converter has become loose, but didn't hit the target points for triggering the MIL.  But yes, usually the rattle is only on startup and shutdown, not while driving.

Hmm perhaps it is knock.

Sounds like this although not nearly as severe.

Actually it is pretty hard to duplicate. Perhaps the Polestar tune makes the car a bit picky on gas....albeit only a little picky.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

Could be.  Maybe try 94 octane (i.e. Petro Canada 94).

Fairly sure it's the camera that gave it up.

The warranty was around $3200. Prorated refundable for a $80 admin fee. Not bad.

Mine doesn't have fancy dampers. In Europe they do I think plus the new XC90 has air suspension option.

When do you have to buy the warranty? Only at the time of purchase or do you have to option just before the original warranty wears off?
I love it when a plan comes together.

I bought when I got the car but in pretty sure you can buy as long as original isn't up. Dunno if cost increases later.

BTW not sure if I mentioned but this warranty covers everything except a specific exclusion list which is pretty short. Basically excludes wear items.

It probably should increase as it becomes a self selection issue.

thx. That's great piece of mind. Do you actually foresee yourself keeping the car for 8 years? Seems like a long time to me, though I kept my previous Camry 8 years, and they flew by...

It is a bit of a stretch but the warranty is prorated refundable for a small admin charge. And it does create a form of commitment mechanism in terms of sticking with the car.

It has been 1.5 years so far and I am still really really liking the car. It suits my needs perfectly, does everything at a 8/10 or better level (imho), and I really like the uniqueness and styling of it.

I'm not sure there is much out there nor on the immediate horizon that would be so much better that as to prompt a change (given that money is indeed an object), and there isn't much selection in wagons anyways. So in some sense another 6.5 years to let the field turn over seems mostly reasonable.
