Canada Post started using Ford Transits in our area. The mailmen HATE 'em. They prefer the ancient Grumman curbside vans. Notwithstanding their larger size, they're handier to drive, carry more, and they are a step-though design instead of having to walk around them. That makes a big difference when you do it several hundred times a day.

You're talking about the Transit Connect.  This is the Transit.  The Transit Connect is Ford Focus Based, the Transit is a behemoth (like the sprinter)

There is also an all-new Transit Connect this year (yes, already)

Didn't realize there are two similarly named and styled Ford vans.

The reason that there is a new Transit Connect "already" is because the design was on the market in Europe for a few years before it reached North America, and has to be replaced to  remain competitive on its "home turf," so to speak...

I wouldn't call ANY .fullsize van a thing of beauty. They are work ,contractor vehicles. Most of them suck fuel at an alarming  rate.
If they could improve them more in this respect it would be good.

I don't know...if not a thing of beauty perhaps an 'elegant design' may fit the bill. I like this a lot and it seems to me that in shorter form and made a little mor familly and less comercial...it could make a super tow vehicle for smaller RV trailers. Either front or rear drive would be ok for this. It has the power that the small Transit did not and the room to put stuff and the headroom to make use easy. Not to live or sleep in but to stow stuff.

As someone who buys work vans all the time, I could care less about looks. It's about dollars per load, running costs, downtime and driver comfort/convenience, in that order.
I'd never join a group that would have me as a member.

Now all Ford needs to do is build a new Ranger, or bring over a North American friendly version of the one they've been selling in the UK (crew cab w/6' box), equip it with the 3.7L V6 (base) or the 3.2TD I-5 (optional), price it under $30K CDN fully loaded, and they should have a winner.
