There's a reason the RX is the best selling luxury vehicle on the planet.

I doubt that's true.
In the US it is

I bet that GS was sweet indeed

Today I noticed this one on autotrader which is cheaper than the one we saw in Oakville yesterday...

Sure, in the US. But not on the planet.

Great summary Quad!  I really like reading about someone else's impressions of the various vehicles considered.  Even if the buyer has very different vehicular preferences than my own, it's always interesting to learn why some folks gravitate to (and away from) certain vehicles.

Mazda CX-5 and Acura RDX have been added to the list. I won't be going for the ride along on these though.

I guess without the use of imogees, people can no longer recognize deliberate hyperbole.

Oh, and the above was sarcastic - here let me help you.  ::)

Just kidding.  ;D  Mostly.  >:(
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

The CX-5 is pretty sweet in most respects.  Slick exterior styling, really nice interior packaging and materials and better than average handling.  But it feels like it barely has enough power to get out of its own way.  In other words, it's a Mazda.

The GS should get a really close look.  I drove a couple 100k-plus examples when I was shopping and they were as tight as a drum.  You can definitely find some primo examples with less mileage than that in the low '30s.  If the buyer doesn't have to finance nearly all of the purchase price then it's a compelling alternative to almost anything new for similar money.

I'd actually liked to have joined for the CX and RDX, curious how they rated compared to everything else.

Agree about the GS. I still think it would give her the best bang/buck and is still more luxurious than anything she has looked at so far. But it doesn't allow her to sit up high so it keeps getting pushed out. I even had her sit in a Golf R and she loved it but again, not high.

All I can do is make suggestions.

On a side note. The Mrs saw a Golf R and looked inside (car was locked) and loves it! Said we can trade our GTI in as soon as I get a job. Always a catch.  :rofl2:

Thought I'd give an update.

The SIL is testing the '17 Forester XT today. By talking to her it sounds like this might be the one.

Update: A deal has been made on a '17 Forester XT (fully loaded) based on a test drive once it comes in.  I can't wait to take it for a spin.

Don't!  You'll want one. After driving the new XT I'm not sure I'd "settle" for the aspro. The turbo is much nicer than the old one and the Forester is now a really sweet package. The kicker is the XT no longer comes with the horrendous economy penalty it once did. I just don't like the price.

I already want one without driving it.   8)

Same price as a Golf R.  Two different but great cars. Really don't know what I would do but we do love having a sunroof.  Of course the Golf Wagon 4-motion and the 4-motion Allroad will be here in Sept. Good thing I'm broke so I don't have to make a decision.

My SIL got her XT today. She has called twice due to the excitement. I should be seeing her in a couple of weeks so I'll be able to go for a quick drive with it. A little excited.

Just saw this thread now.

Would have been curious to hear your thoughts/her thoughts on the Acura RDX.  Full loaded Subaru Forester XT and full loaded Acura RDX Elite is only $2000 difference.  And I prefer a NA V6.  Very similar features, passenger/cargo room, fuel economy, and performance.

I think the RDX Elite is more like $6,000 more expensive.
