I priced out similar Ford / RAM and GM Diesel 250(0) options and the Nissan is basically priced the same as those.  Although the interior of the Nissan is a little more upscale because it is a newer design.

Long story short you can get a 3/4 ton for the same price as the Nissan which is between the 3/4 and 1/2.  BUT !!!!

Some people don't want the rough ride and size of the 3/4 but want or need a little more than the 1/2 So for them it makes sense.  It may be a small market though.

Truck guys please wait for my review ;)

Here are the payload ratings for the Crew Cab with Diesel:

S: 4x2, 2,091 pounds; 4x4, 2,004 pounds
SV: 4x2, 1,924 pounds; 4x4, 1,838 pounds
PRO-4X: 4x4 only, 1,733 pounds
SL: 4x2, 1,674 pounds; 4x4, 1,588 pounds
Platinum Reserve: 4x2, 1,676 pounds; 4x4, 1,470 pounds

Fully loaded Titan XD has only 1,470 pounds payload. That puts it into 1/2 ton territory.

yea, for a truck passing itself off as a "step up", it certainly seems to be lacking in some areas.

I actually think the payload capacity is a total weight issue.   In order for the capacity to be higher the truck would have to be certified to be a 3/4 ton which can mean other licensing issues in some jurisdictions.   So to avoid that the total capacities have been reduced.

I do not believe for one second you couldn't fill the the titan xd with double the stuff you put in a ridgeline and have an issue,  except with the local constabulary.

curiously absent from what i can find anywhere is the curb weight of this truck...not listed on nissan.ca or the USA site either.

Weights (and mileage) not required because of its class ("heavy duty" in the US).  Not sure if the same thing applies in  Canada?

C&D estimated the weight of the 5.6L  gas at 6000 lbs (2WD), and the diesel at 6800 lbs plus.  IIRC some reviews put the fully loaded diesel on the scale and it rang in at 7400 lbs!!

I'll buy your argument about the XD having a better ride than the 3/4 ton trucks.  But not the "size" - show me one dimension, or weight, in which the XD is smaller than the D3's 3/4 ton trucks...

For that matter, the half ton trucks are no smaller than the 3/4 tons either (besides in weight).  Same width (80"), same length (if you choose the same cab/bed configuration), and same height (if equivalent option packages).

Damn....According to the GM website, a 3/4 ton Silverado 4x4 diesel crew cab is about 7400lbs....
Lighten up Francis.....

If it weights that much it explains fuel economy

oh, i've got a few 1500 rams next to 2500's... they sure aren't the same size! higher, longer, heavier... not sure on width.

Well they're not longer in the equivalent configurations - i.e., crew cab + 6.5' bed, regular cab + 8' bed, etc.

Yeah, there is no comparable size when it comes from light duty to heavy duty trucks  ;)

the bodies are slightly different, so i looked it up.... weirdest thing.... the 2500 in the same configuration (crew, 6'4" box is the most common) is actually .5" shorter! 237.4" compared to the 1500 at 237.9"....

like usual, i'm wrong!

as an edit....... narrower too!!!!! what the hell? my mind is now blown... maybe mirrors are included on a 1500? man.... 79.1 on the 2500, 79.4 on the 1500.

so heavier and higher... but shorter and narrower...

Those differences are strictly bumper and trim design changes I think. I bet there's no difference in the actual body panels.

A friend had a millwright company and had a Ram 3500 crew cab with duellies , Cummins engine
He would avg 15 l / 100 km in that empty
