I guess that picture of the instrument panel is a stock pic of a US car.

What makes you say that?  I'd guess it's not. (I don't think stock photos would have a snowbrush on the passenger floor)

We are looking at two different pictures.  I am looking at the one below the article, Sailor, you are looking at the one in the article.

" This week my Regal is sporting the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with the same layout that I tested on the Cadillac ATS just a few weeks ago."

Not sure what is meant by this statement but they are 2 very different cars / platforms.  The engine in the ATS is longitudinal mounted, primarily driving the rear wheels while in the Regal it is transverse mounted, primarily driving the front wheels.  Of course the Regal has more interior space.  This is common with transverse setups.  Compare the space in a Honda Accord with that of a MB E-class or BMW 5-series and you'll find the interior of the Accord more spacious.

It's just a re-badged Vauxhall Insignia, no?  I prefer the interior of the Regal over the ATS from a functionality standpoint.

I believe one of the younger forum member just purchased one of these.. I'd say Buick is off to a good start. :)

If you are referring to me, I just bought a Verano Turbo 6MT @ 28 years old, but the Regal isn't bad either. It was just more than I wanted to spend currently.

For what its worth to Buick and to the discussion, once people are done with the old jokes, they generally admit the Verano (and Regal, when it comes up) seem decent. Which is way more than could be said for the Allure and Lucerne.

SearHardBurger bought a Regal GS with a manual. He's about thirty.

Depends on the way you look at it... The Allure and Lucerne are not bad vehicles, they are more the traditional Buick.  Comfortable, reliable, big, good value on a used buy!

Guess the manual setup didn't bother him in the Regal, found the manual in the Pontiac G5 better!

I'm assuming carcrazed is referring to me.  Two months later, and I don't regret my purchase one bit.  The old man jokes have died down, and a buddy of mine that give me the most grief when I bought the car has asked to drive it 3 times in the last two months!  ;D I notice people taking a second look at the car quite often.

As the road conditions have been getting better here this week, I've been able to have a little more fun with the car, and am happy to report that it is more than quick enough for me.  The manual setup doesn't bother me at all.  I actually like it quite a bit.  There is no ambiguity in the shifter and the clutch feel is great.

I didn't think it was related to the Cadillac but it sure looks like the Malibu 2.0T from last week.

I'm sticking with my Buick brand comeback theory...SearhardBurger and others like him are becoming the next generation of Buick champions. You know how sometimes a person buys a certain kind of car and then gets all evangelical about it...meanwhile everyone knows they're full of sh!t because the car is really crap? Well, that doesn't apply to Buick anymore (nor SearhardBurger  :)).

I'm not sure that I'm a Buick champion quite yet.  I think there are other brands that are doing a lot more than Buick in order to increase their appeal, and I'm still of the opinion that the Regal GS was/is the only car in the Buick line-up that I would consider owning since I was looking for something more aggressive and sportier-looking than their other cars.  I believe I mentioned this either in my show n shine thread or my thread in the buying, selling and leasing section.

Buick would have to get more cars in their line-up that appeal to me before I could recommend the brand to other people (and be a true brand champion!) my age.  I cannot afford a 45-50k car and neither can most people I know.  The only reason I own a Regal GS is because of the deal I got on it.  Making the Verano Turbo better looking and bringing the Opel Cascadia to NA would also be steps in the right direction imo.

My friends (including Sir O) will tell you that I continue to make Buick jokes, and still can't believe I bought one.  Brand image can be a powerful thing.  If I could afford it and it was two months ago (and I had to pick between the Regal GS and ATS performance pack), I probably would have bought the ATS with the performance package, assuming the test drive went ok of course.

Well facts are, the average Buick buyer is getting younger than before, Buick sales are increasing, Buick's reliability is increasing...I would consider one if they had a vehicle that met my needs...No van, Enclave too big, Encore too small, no wagon...

Buick does make good cars but to change the reputation so entrenched in everyone's minds you have to be better then good.

I suggest using the rear drive platform for the Chevy SS but loose the bland styling and go for something serious.

They did it in the 80's, built a legend out of a sows ear.   They should do it again now that they have good hardware to work with.
