While this truck is, at first glance, a status symbol, it still has all the functionality of North America's bestselling vehicle.

My Mazda 5 has a payload only 200kg lower than this thing. What an appalling over-priced, over-blinged POS

Wow, 65k for this thing? I have friends that have the Ecoboost FX4 - aside from the HD badging, power running boards (love to see those work in -25 degree weather with frozen slush all over them), 22's and marginally more HP - whats the big deal? Pretty sure that FX4 was around $35k.

Oh and snake skin themed?! May as well slap a Viper badge on there somewhere for good measure. I think the limited is a much more attractive package.
My other Honda is an MP4-31!

I never understood why they made this particular model. Was it to poach HD owners that want the most expensive HD accessory?

You could say the same about just about anything with a Harley badge, people will still buy it.

(If you pull off a couple of spark plug wires does it then sound similar to a Harley?)

Yeah I think that's where I was going with this being the accessory to the Harley even if it costs more than the bike (or pair of) itself!

I wonder how many/% of non-HD bike owners buy the HD F-150?

Between this, the Cabellas and the Platinum, Ford has some pretty ridiculous trim packages. I personally wouldnt want any vehicle that is associated with Harley because that would mean they are noisy, overpriced and unreliable.......is that the message you want to get out there Ford??? I think an XLT or FX4 would be about the highest up the line I would ever go but then again, I like vinyl floors in my trucks and actually use them for truck work, so dents, scratches and a muddy road happens a lot, the diamond paint, uhhhh, Ill pass thanks. Gimme  air/tilt/cruise, a power pack, heavy duty cooling, a towing package, good stereo, skidplates, a rear locker and buckets and thats all I need thank you. 1/2 ton trucks are becoming more and more dainty, I mean hell, for the most part, they dont even offer a decent all terrain tire.
Lighten up Francis.....

MSRP (with freight/AC tax) for an FX4 SuperCrew with EcoBoost is $49,249. Of course, no one pays MSRP for these trucks.

They've bought their last 3 F-150s there as well and they've known the sales manager since highschool so I'm sure they're getting a good deal. Like I said though - "around" $35k. Def under $40k though. $14k right off the bat sure helps with the sticker shock. Still agree with Keh-vin - I'd leave the snakeskin inspiration to my wife's boots.

Aw c'mon now, don't be a hater.  It'll beat your 5 to the next light and back with 2 loads where you've only delivered one!

Gotta say I hate the stripe.  Pretty sure I wouldn't like the snakeskin either.

Why don't they put this engine in the XLT?  Based on Fuelly it's no worse on an average than my Ecoboost, plus it sounds a whole lot better.  I want a big box with my big engine.

Pretty sure my XLT was over $40g before discounts, the FX4's gotta be more than that.  Or maybe that's with discounts? I see they got $14g on the hood right now...

I was mostly pointing out what I consider to be a very low payload. As soon as you load up with 4 people you're suddenly not far from the weight limit. Many SUVs and minivans have similar payload limits; that's not what I'd want from a work truck. The new ranger in Europe has a payload 200kg more than this F-150.

It may get away from the lights faster (much faster!) and deliver more loads in a space of time, but it's also three times the cost! I'm just trying to make my position clear that I find it over-priced for what it is, and a poor work truck. Then the paint, leather, "snake" etc just bling it beyond belief. I'm not a fan.

Agreed the payload for the HD edition is shockingly low. The ultimate HD accessory can't even carry a HD in the bed?!?

To be fair though if a work F-150 with payload cap is a priority, one can be packaged for over 3100lbs of payload, which is best in class? I wonder why the HD edition has such a low payload cap? I see your point though that the HD edition doesn't even excel at being...a truck.

Softer springs, low profile tires......probably nothing major.

Your basic truck (standard cab, bed, etc) will have a certain payload.  Additional weight (crew cab, wheels, etc) will be subtracted from the payload.  With the HD version having the highest level of options, it makes sense that the payload is lower.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

I'm guessing the low payload is due to the high weight.  With a lot of loaded trucks the max gross weight is the same as base trucks so a big part of the payload is already used up before you even climb in.

You would still think they could do better then that though.  Years ago I had an 88 Ram 50 extra cab pick up with a payload of 1560 lbs.  Bet it would be embarassing for someone who spent this much on what they thought was a tough truck only to be outdone by a 2750 lb Japanese minitruck.

These type of trim packages fall under the "Silly" heading as far as I'm concerned.  ::)
