My Versa can easily do 700 kms + on one tank on the highway

I don't know many people who drive 7 hours without stopping and then go straight into a business meeting.  Good luck with that.

Your blinders are on like ALWAYS!   You are seriously one pathetic fanboi.

I don't know many people who drive 7 hours without stopping and then go straight into a business meeting.  Good luck with that.

So all of a sudden the meeting was moved another hour away. Just a couple of days ago it was only 600 kms. Before we know it you will need to get on a plane.

But lets just look at your example again.

Example 600 km road trip in a Bolt vs Focus (gas) to a meeting.

Focus has half a tank of gas to start, 300 km of range, as it's impractical to keep a gas tank fully topped up every day.
Focus needs to stop to refuel half way through the trip for 20 minutes (including on/off highway).  No food, just gas stop.

Bolt has EPA rated range of 384 km, but let's reduce that to 320 km of highway range at 120 km/h.
Bolt stops half way through trip and charges to full while eating lunch for 1 hour.

It was a very windy day and the Bolt could only go 280 kms so it had to stop twice to recharge to get there but the Versa made it there without the need to stop.   :P

How about drawing the card "Your city suffers a complete and utter power outage for 3 days due to a winter storm"?

Or "A critter chews through your charging cable and zaps itself into the dark beyond, completely destroying your electrical circuit"?
Nope, Elon said thats impossible because he has good juju from a tweet that Mother Nature sent herself......

Gas pumps need electricity too, most don't have back up generators, not to mention the cash registers and Interact terminals.

If it's a concern, there's this:

But Tesla owners would likely also have these:

Oh, and 600 or 700kms to a meeting and I'm flying.

SirO you really always help the underdog, eh?  ;D

We can certainly fabricate scenarios and solutions to these scenarios.

Personally I see both sides, but these "scenarios" don't really cover anyone's use case completely.

I would like an electric car, but here are the issues, again, in my case:
1. I like manual transmissions
2. I will soon be living walking distance to work so won't be using my car daily.
3. I do road trips that are not on the 401 or AUT 40.
4. I like manual transmissions
5. I don't live in ON or QC currently so no rebate.
6. I will probably have outdoor parking in an unowned building.
7. I like manual transmissions

Did I mention I like manual transmissions? While I'm smitten by the engineering of electric cars, I'll be buying three pedal cars while I can (which I realize won't be that long), as long as I commute to work by bicycle, walk, or public transit.

It's a weakness.  ;D

The simple reality is that for 90% of car use, existing electrics could work just fine. There are scenarios where they won't work as well as ICE vehicles, but they're getting increasingly esoteric in nature as ranges on electric improve.

But we're still in the early adopter stage. Costs are still high but trending lower. People have preferences and are resistant to change. I think we're getting closer to the turnover stage where BEVs take over.

In a year or two, I would have to redo my roof. The solar panel is an open option at this stage but no decision has been made yet.

I'm curious to see what kind of product would be reveal next October: "Aiming for Oct 28 unveil in SF Bay Area of new Tesla/SolarCity solar roof with integrated Powerwall 2.0 battery and Tesla charger"

You are in the Quebec, no point in sending thousand of dollars on panels when power already cheap

2 Bolts with Michigan licence plates have been spotted at multiple locations in Quebec. They apparently testing connectivity with Circuit Electrique fast chargers.

It's not Vaporware anymore... ;)

the reveal of the model 3 might happen next Oct/Nov but we won't see mass production until 2018.  Many of the other automakers are aiming for mass production of electric cars by 2018 as well.

they won't be going bankrupt either. elon has the backing of wall st and wall st will pump this stock into the ground to protect their investment. i'm very confident there will be another couple stock dilutions in the next yr or so, as they massively burn through cash.  amazingly, goldman sachs upgraded tesla on the morning of the same day they had underwritten a multi billion dollar dilution of their stock this summer.  electric cars are taking over. it's only a matter of time as to how long it takes.
Who ever thought Nortel would go belly up !

Yep, agreed.

They are doing their homeworks. When the first Kia Soul EV arrived they had issues with some fast chargers.

Yep...will be a great EV.

i'm hoping all the other oems wake up (i'm looking at you BMW i3) and they stop spoon feeding the consumer.

All about the profits.  Nothing more.

On a related note...it sounds like Toyota might drop the regular Prius hybrid once the plug-in comes out and all Prius will be plug-ins.  Interesting.

They should drop the current Prius's body shell in favour of the plug-in's style.

And I think I've read this story. They are basically saying another 10% MPG improvement for the next gen prius won't happen unless it has a plug.

Car & Driver review of the Bolt. Btw production has started at a rate of 8-9/hre. The plan is to bring it up at 30/hre once the production line is up to speed.
