sorry, but i just can't see how anyone would buy that car...it looks like the cheapest POS available today inside...the new Yaris looks better and it's less than half the price...a cheap looking car like that is forgivable at $10-$15k (although, many "cheap" cars now are getting much better inside), but at $33k++?!?!

I really enjoyed my time in one.  It was quite a comfortable place to be and in terms of NVH, it punches way above its size.   Definitely a benefit of electric operation.

I've never been in a Leaf but they are supposed to be even quieter.

In any case the Mits is a great package if you have the application.

Cheers,
John M.

So you've said repeatedly.  ::)

It's the cheapest electric car available. A person interested in electric vehicles isn't likely to find a gas powered Yaris to be an enticing substitute.

At $1.47/L, 11¢/kWhr, 20,000km/yr, the payback is a bit over 11 years over a base Kia Rio ($14095). The payback drops to 6 years with a loaded Rio5. With the Ontario grant, the payback is 1 year 8 months.

as i said, i don't have anything necessarily against electric cars, but look at the interior of that Mits...it's the cheapest looking car on the road...i think they would have been better off to invest a few extra $$$ and give it an interior that at least looks reasonable for a $30-$40k car.

 :iagree: One person's halo car is not the same as the next. One person's halo automotive features aren't those of their neighbour. I have a co-worker, and a colleague at another workplace, who would both become giddy with excitement at the thought of meeting all their transportation needs without stopping at a gas station. If the EV was a tin can with a bare metal interior, it would not curb their enthusiasm in the least. If you talked skid pad numbers, track times, or the texture of dash plastics with them, you would be speaking a different language. The i-MiEV is not aimed at the majority of people who visit this site.

it is marginally cheaper than the Leaf (when comparably equipped), but looks like it should be a third the price.

$6k difference is hardly marginal, base price to base price. And I'm not seeing the Leaf interior as being much better.

there is a $6k difference if you compare "base to base", but the Leaf has much more in its base model than the I-miev does...add the premium package to the Mits model, at that more than cuts the difference in half.

regarding the difference in looks, i hope you are kidding:

On the one hand, you are arguing that it's too expensive, then on the other, that you might as well kick in an extra $6k to get a Leaf. Which is it?

The interior of the Leaf is pretty glitzy, while the iMiev is quite plain. Other than that, meh. I'm not seeing enough to justify another $6k.

For $40k, I'd get a Volt.

all electric cars are expensive...i get it...but at least the Leaf (and the Volt) at least LOOK expensive...the I-Miev is almost as expensive (when you add the extra features) yet still looks dirt cheap inside...that's my point.
