On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

and it continues! I suspect VW will be heavily fined...

report from Reuters revealed that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has rejected Volkswagen’s plan to fix its 2.0-liter diesel engines that were equipped with software that enabled them to emit 40 times the legal amount of pollution. According to the state, Volkswagen’s fix wasn’t complete, fell short of meeting the legal requirements, and wasn’t fast enough.

The EPA also said in a statement that Volkswagen hasn’t “submitted an approvable recall plan to bring the vehicles into compliance and reduce pollution.” However, the automaker said that it is “committed to working cooperatively with CARB and other regulators” to find a solution to the diesel emissions issue.

Well, if they get desperate I might be willing to give them 30k or so for a new Touareg.  ;D

Argh! VW has no clue how to resolve this mess - my gut feeling.

Hmmm, I wonder what the EPA's take is on all the cruise and cargo ships entering US ports.  ;)

Or all the tractor trailers on their Interstates.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

And it has been revealed that Volkswagen resisted the NHTSA over Takata air bag recalls:

https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/documents-show-volkswagen-resisted-takata-air-bag-recall-200703419.html

Seriously VW? You have a potentially major safety issue in regards to the air bag inflators, with no known root cause, and everyone left, right and centre recalling vehicles that used Takata inflators, and you refuse to agree to a recall until forced to?

VW just keeps on digging....

Have to agree.  Like some VW models.  And have considered buying a golf wagon.  But VW has some attitude, and their lack of concern for the public certainly bothers me.

Wow that letter is full of attitude!

Is there a link to the actual letter?

VW's stance in that article seems pretty reasonable to me.

Do you think Ford has always written warm & fuzzy letters to the NHTSA?

I hear what your saying, but most of the auto manufacturers complied with the Takata air bag mess.  Since VW was already in deep trouble, it should do anything the NHTSA asks! The goal is to rebuild consumer confidence.
