A late night brewing session here to try and keep up.  Brewing my Breakfast Stout, which is an 8.0% Imperial Stout brewed with lots of locally roasted Coffee, Oats, Cacao Nibs, and even threw in a few eggs.  My home smoked Applewood bacon will be added once all fermentation is complete.  I absolutely love pushing the envelope when it comes to brewing.

Pushing the envelope or bordering on mad science. Hmm If your guinea pig survives, I'd be willing to give it a whirl.

chuck an onion in just for fun...

that looks crazy! thanks for giving me a good answer.... appreciate it! i feel like you can taste it when the brewer worries more about the beer tasting great rather than the bottom line of profitability...

keep having fun and get (just) big enough to get your beer in a few of my watering holes here in onterrible
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

I've brewed this before, so it's not a guinea pig batch.  But I suppose it was at one point.  I served this beer at the Fredericton Craft Beerfest a couple of weeks ago and had rave reviews!

Tried two localish craft beers on Tuesday. Found them in the LCBO

Rhyme & Reason   IPA   and Smashbomb Atomic IPA    Both a bit stronger than the standard beer at 6% and 5.7% respectively.  Both seem pretty well constructed beers. One from Burlington and one from Barrie.

BUT     they both used Citra hops which I had never heard of which lent them a distinct taste of Grapefruit.    Smashbomb only admits to Citra whereas Rhyme  also claims Centennial,Chinook and Simcoe.

Canuck, have you used these hops ? and if so what is your opinion of Citra in particular.

Pity about the grapefruit taste. It will prevent me from buying any beer with that hop...I presume with a name like Citra that it is the culprit.

Yep, I use Citra quite frequently.

I actually find Citra to provide more of a tropical fruit (ie, papaya) aromas and flavours.  Cascade hops, on the other hand, provide a very distinct Grapefruit flavour and aroma.  I haven't had the R&R IPA, but I'm a big fan of the Smashbomb.

Rhyme and Reason is labeled as an extra pale ale... It's a wonderful beer and not nearly the hop bomb that is .... Well... Smashbomb.

R&R is pretty well balanced with just enough bitterness and wonderful hop aromas.  One of my favorite Ontario beer.  If only they would still it in pints.  Canuck, definitely check it out if you get the chance.

tpl, then definitely don't check out the Karma Citra by Great Lakes Brewing.  However, I really really like that one.

Couple of guys I used to work with and I used to do that. I was surprised NB Liquor even offers that service.

Yeah, no kidding.  I've been ordering from them for a couple of years now, and am surprised that they don't even mark up the prices.

I assume this is the one?

Bottle just has brown front label     They call it an IPA   Back label has a pic of a musician called Sarah Burton.

Don't get me wrong. I thought it was really good beer as was Smashbomb  but I have never liked grapefruit.

I'd like to see something like the old Worthington White Shield still with secondary fermentation yeast in the bottle....but I suspect the 'elf and safety people would disapprove of that.

Each bottle has a different label.  I think there are 100 or so labels per run.  It's pretty cool.

And it's not labeled as an IPA. It's an Extra Pale Ale.. Whatever that means.

And yes Canuck, that is the one.

Get some of that Karma Citra while you're at it.

All is explained.  I bought a 6 pack, took to a curry  dinner along with the Smashbomb. Didn't drink any myself but as everyone who did said they were very good I  brought one of each home to try later and drank them with pasta last night.
