If Jacob can get in touch with the author if this article, tell her that there is a helicopter pad at the end of that road in Pouch Cove. It is perched at the edge of the rocky headland and offers a great view out over the north Atlantic. It is a great spot - you feel like you've reached the end of the world. Oh, I made it there in the summer of 1997 or 1998 in my Dad's '88 Corolla. 😺
One great trip they missed was a whale/puffin watching tour out of Bay Bulls, about 40 minutes south of St. John's. I've taken this tour a number of times and it's always memorable. The last time I took it was this past summer with my parents and my sister's family. My nieces loved it - we saw a number of humpback whales, some dolphins and as my Dad would say, the sky was maggoty with puffins.
It is too bad that they didn't have the time to visit L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site - the location of the only documented Viking settlement in North America.
I could go on and on about a number of other great sites they could have visited. If anyone is ever planning a trip to Newfoundland, don't hesitate to ask me.
PS - There is a short ferry ride to Labrador from the great northern peninsula which makes a great little side trip.
