Honda 2017 Ridgeline
« on: April 26, 2016, 10:43:45 am »
I'm patiently (not really) waiting for this vehicle to become available at Honda dealerships. Anyone know when we will see reviews/road tests?
From what I've read, dealers will start receiving at least one truck, for test drives, in late May or early June.  Anyone with Honda connections know if this is true?
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.

The new one looks really good. Too bad they didn't put a real engine into it, I wouldn't mind one if it could haul our trailer.

It's a real engine for the majority of truck owners I'd say.....

Most people don't tow anything beyond a few thousand pounds....if they tow at all.

Those who require 8-10K for towing are the minority.

They aren't going to produce an engine that would have such a minimal market.

Yeah I know.  But look at the trucks mentioned.  Only the popular domestics.  You don't see that many Tundras...

And the bulk of those are used for nothing more than getting groceries and the occasional 2x4.

Which is why a V6 is as much as anyone will ever need in a Ridgeline.  It will likely be more comfortable and better fuel economy too.

For me the engine in the Ridgeline is enough. It could use some more bottom end torque but Honda knows how to build a sweet 6 that pulls hard and smooth all the way to redline. I have towed up to 4000 lbs but never more than that. No desire to pull an aluminum box to a parking lotcampground and camp with rednecks. ;D

If I did have a desire to tow the Ridge wouldn't be on the list. I had a new Dodge Ran Bighorn for three weeks last summer while the Ridge was getting the hail damage fixed. Other than a cool exhaust note and the ability to light up the tires the Ridgeline was superior in what I needed from a truck.  I usually flip my vehicles quick but I will keep the Ridgeline for a long time, it is just too damn handy. Handles like a big sedan, has oddles of lockable storage,is very stable on rough stuff and is great in the winter. It holds two dirt bikes perfectly and will fit in my garage with the bikes in the bed.  Great for securing the bikes when I am getting an early start the next morning. The new one's interior is too car like. The appeal of the original Ridgeline is the great storage.

^ Has it been confirmed the new RL has less space than the original?

Interior wise yes. It now has a carlike center console and shifter  that does nothing but take up space. The center armrest console has also been changed. In the original Ridgeline there is a flat load space up front in between the front seats. The center console in the original is downright huge with many different storage areas. Whoever designed the original put function first and really sweated the details on how users may utilizer the "truck". From the in bed lights to the multi level tie down anchors to the indentations in the bed that act as wheel chocks for up to three dirtbikes the details are all there.  20-30 more ft/lbs and it would be perfect.

Wing, thanks for the info.
I'm the bulls-eye for Honda's Ridgeline target.
I bought a F250 diesel to pull our 5th wheel, but once the 5th wheel was sold I felt the Ford was way too much truck for me.  The most I'll tow now is my small utility trailer, with a 1500 pound maximum.
I don't need a truck that can tow a lot, I'll never take it off road, and I want something that's easy to drive and park in congested areas.
Now, if Honda can keep the price at a reasonably sane level......
