Was the car a lease that was returned or a trade in ?

I bought directly from Tesla via the CPO program, car was traded in, original owner has a new Tesla.

Of note:
Most of the CPO inventory earlier this year were higher end performance model P85(+), which is likely due to trade-ups for those lucky guys who upgraded to the P85D.

Tesla......  :-[ I know, me right, Tesla. I really like what I am seeing. Beautiful car

Yeah, I checked the Tesla buy and build page for the Model S yesterday as they announced a new lower end model.
The "base" model is $73K pre-tax, the Ontario rebate pretty much cancels out the tax, so total is $75K drive away.
The longer range 85kWh model configured the way mine is, comes to $94K (with rebate).

After two years and 60000 km, the Tesla we bought from the CPO (certified pre-owned) program is pretty much perfect, sure it doesn't have the new upgrades (autopilot) added since, but I'm in the car a full year before I thought I would be.  You could not possibly tell the car has been driven that far or for two years from the way it goes.  My wife says "it HAULS!", and she's not wrong.  l-)

The CPO program is interesting with goodly configured (not base) 85kWh cars in mid-$70K with 20000km on them.
Ref:
http://www.teslamotors.com/en_CA/models/preowned

So, with $10K (minimum) savings in fuel over 8 years (on our current rate of driving), that puts things in perspective.
It's like buying a $50K luxury SUV from Merc/Audi/BMW and paying for gas.

Think about this:

Example  :
2010 Mercedes GLK loaded with AMG package was $56K new.
The GLK depreciated at $8K per year for the first two years, then about $5K per year afterwards.
Cost of fuel was about $2500 over the past 12 months before we traded in recently.

So, the GLK was costing us $8K per year for the past two years in fuel + depreciation + repairs ($400 for 12V battery, $800 "B" service).

The Tesla looks to be about the same for the next 3 years, ie, fuel ($500 electricity per year) plus depreciation (~$8000) to run.
I don't include repairs as the car is fully under warranty for the next 4 years, and drive train for 6 more years.

So, by trading in the GLK now, the Tesla was roughly comparable on cost.  YOLO

You sure it's not gonna depreciate more than that?  I'd be wary of buying a 5yr old electric car given the speed of tech these days.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Skoda.de for shites n' giggles.  Built a top of the line AWD Laurin & Klement edition Supurb wagon with a 206kW turbocharged 2.0l.  Came to roughly EUR 45,000.
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

It already depreciated at a rate of $15K per year for the first two years before I got it.  The initial depreciation is done, now it's up to me to keep the car in nice condition.  It is a superior vehicle to most at the price I paid, then in three years, it will still be something special compared to the competition, and it's value will be pretty good considering Tesla constantly update the car.

Just received an update last night and today there are new features to identify destinations in the navigation beyond supercharging like the hotels in the Blue Mountain area for example which have Tesla (or J1772) destination chargers for overnight stays.  Very nice feature.

The next major update is due out in a few months and will be a complete overhaul of the car touch screen and systems when the Model X is revealed.

The car will keep it's value better than most due to Tesla and it's infrastructure roll out plans, not only the car as I was when I bought it.

I suspect the RWD Teslas might tank in value a bit once preowned AWD models are plentiful though.

maybe Tesla will make a truck in a couple of years for you!  ;D

That I do not see happening, that is to say, myself buying a battery powered truck. Hauling a trailer the range would be far too small

Here's what you need:

I suspect the RWD Teslas might tank in value a bit once preowned AWD models are plentiful though.

I was thinking of waiting for AWD, but the base 70kWh battery wasn't enough winter range for us, so that put me into an 85kWh at >>$95K new with not too many options.

Meanwhile, my S85 is well spec'd, leather, air suspension, hifi sound, pano sunroof, premium interior (power liftgate).  Those options alone put a new AWD 85 at $100K.

Let's say the 2015 AWD 85 is on the used market in two years time, at around $75K.

Let's say I put mine up for $55K in two years time, that is a very big difference in used price, same options, same amount of remaining warranty (as my car has 4 years to go) so I don't see these two cars in the same league.

We're both selling original $100K retail cars, mine has two more years, and lots more km, but same warranty, for $20K less.

That is still a year before the high volume Tesla is on the market, so I still have a pent up market for a freaky fast and cool luxury electric cruiser, with no cheaper or more compelling competition.

I'm not worried anyway, this won't be my last Tesla.  Entirely possible I trade up in 3 years, selling with warranty still on my car to a happy buyer who gets a car that will accelerate every bit as fast and smoothly as the day it left the factory, and has up to date gadget/features (as Tesla keeps updating the car).

Saw the new Dodge Ram Rebel at the dealer yesterday so I checked the configurator out. It's laughable that a supposed "off road" trim level has an optional limited slip rear diff and skid plates.  ::)

Side note: Also available is a "TONNEAU COVER W/EMBOSSED RAM'S HEAD."  :rofl2:

I know they've introduced it for other markets but the U.S. press release I found indicates that it won't be coming to North America.

The new TT coupe is also 200 pounds lighter than the Golf R.

At the Audi site building an A3 Sportback TDI for my wife. Once the boy starts driving the Venza she wants nothing to do with an SUV......ever again. Fully loaded its $44k MRSP...not bad at all.

Yep, just too bad there's no Quattro.
