Very informative, could a nice chart like that be created for Toyota?

while I cut them some slack for things like the airbag (it's not GM that messed up, it's another company - which also impacted Nissan and Honda)   I'm shocked at how many these recalls are specific to GM products and many of these on the list are NEW vehicles.   I'm a bit surprised at the amount of recalls for the new GM trucks.

Of course, they also use Takata, I hope that junk is not in my car.  I wonder which plant supplies NA cars, they have one in Mexico, no doubt a tier 2 product.

if I recall, there are only 2 companies making air bags.  I could be wrong though.
I'm sure my Matrix has it, but wasn't one of the recalls.

It just amazes me that someone had the drive/desire to make such an infographic for GM.  I'm sure every manufacturer would look pretty ghastly if one of these were made.

...with that being said, Blotter's not wrong here - if y'ar gonna be farmin' out y'ar parts, make sure they be from a reliable source - else y'ar reputation is goin' down the shitter.

Windshield wipers should not be recalled on a 2014 CTS.

...and "seats" of the 2014 Corvette?!  WTF kind of a recall is that?

I'm inclined to defend GM here and say that this is nitpicking at its finest, most recalls attributable to 3rd party parts (though GM really should have quality control over those as well - I've drafted many contracts that include a clause for mandatory inspection of the 3rd party assembly plants)

Whatever way GM slappies want to spin it, GM has the highest proportion of its fleet end up on a recall list. No other manufacturer is even close. Blaming it on outside suppliers doesn't cut it, since most components are not made on site by any car maker. It did dangerous things is KNEW were dangerous. When I worked for them we replaced the lock cylinder on a daily basis; it was a cash cow, which is why it wasn't recalled.

Of course, this is the (yet again) New and Improved GM (tm), and yes, the old cars were bad but the new ones are the cat's meow! The J car is going to beat the imports back to the ocean! Ooops, that was 30 years ago. A fine GM product would suit anyone-but me. Of course, GM is back its old tricks of being a finance company anyway, flogging its wares to sub-prime customers. You can lease a Cruze 2LT for all of $128 bi-weekly for 36 months, taxes in and the residual is only $10,963. The lease rate is 0%, which is an industry exclusive at least in this class of car.

Note the number of new vehicles on the list.
I'd never join a group that would have me as a member.

Amazing, my model of van has only 7 recalls and none of them apply to my particular configuration (some of these recalls were for aftermarket but GM approved modifications or parts).  Am I lucky or is the shoe going to drop? :P

It's a shockingly long list but I think it's better to have an automaker be proactive about their product issues and fix stuff before it fails than to have customers discover technical glitches and hear from the dealer that "there is nothing wrong with it" , "normal wear and tear", "they all do it", etc. Good for GM, but also unfortunately for them the publicity will hurt used resale.

Proactive? Hardly! GM knew all about the ignition lock problem a decade ago and did nothing to fix the problem. This is not being "proactive." It's being "irresponsible."

I was referring more to this whole bunch of recalls, like ones to do with lights and brake rotors... With some car makers, not to name names, if light bulbs burn it is business as usual, no reason for recalls. Wear and tear. Customer's expense.  All car makers today use global part suppliers and all are cutting costs. I understand GM initiated so many recalls because of the ignition switch fiasco to begin with. All I'm saying is even though recalls do bad publicity they are in nature admitting mistakes and taking care of them whether cars are out of warranty or not.

be interesting to compare TSB as well.
many companies issues TSBs instead of the usual recall.  It doesn't look as bad.

While my 4 year 2009 RAV 4 ownership was flawless with no recalls, I did get 2 TSB notices in the mail that require a fix.   (some recalls came out after my lease expired)

Here's an interesting read,  http://www.forbes.com/sites/jimgorzelany/2014/03/26/automakers-with-the-lowest-and-highest-recall-rates/

That's an interesting and fairly logical way of looking at recalls.

Ten Best according to the article:

1. Mercedes-Benz USA:  2.1 million recalled/5.2 million sold;  0.41 recall rate.

2. Mazda Motor Corp:  5.2 million recalled/9.4 million sold;  0.55 recall rate.

3. General Motors:  99.3 million recalled/153.2 million sold;  0.65 recall rate.

4. Nissan North America:  19.1 million recalled/26.8 million sold;  0.71 recall rate.

5. Subaru of America:  4.3 million recalled/6.0 million sold;  0.73 recall rate.

6. Kia Motors:  3.7 million recalled/4.9 million sold;  0.77 recall rate.

7. Toyota Motor Corp:  38.6 million recalled/48.1 million sold;  0.80 recall rate.

8. BMW of North America:  5.1 million recalled/5.7 million sold;  0.90 recall rate.

9. Ford Motor Co:  97.0 million recalled/104.7 million sold;  0.93 recall rate.

10. American Honda Motor Co:  31.1 million recalled/32.9 million sold;  0.94 recall rate.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

The real question is recalled for what?

exactly.

I've snuffed around Transport Canada's website a few times.   Some "recalls" are as simple as not having bilingual airbag warnings on the visors (Subaru had one such recall actually)
