Saw the broadcast of The Tragically Hip's last concert at Officer's Square in downtown Fredericton. They put on a great show. Saddest, greatest concert I've ever seen.
My thoughts exactly. So incredibly poignant. PVR'd it and watched it the next day with my boyfriend (who had to work Saturday night). He had tears rolling down.
Such a wonderful gift to all of Canada for this generation's poet laureate. CBC did a fantastic job.
My thoughts as well! I hadn't kept up with their newer stuff and forgot how good of a band they are. I've seen them in concert at least a couple of times and they were always good, but they were definitely in their finest form for this show!!
We watched it with friends at our place while sitting around a camp fire with a big screen and audio set up on the deck. It was quite a bizarre sight at one point to look around and see everyone all teary-eyed! I PVR'd it as well.
Edit: Kind of an interesting side note is that one of our friends that came over to watch was the President of the Student Union at our local uni and responsible for booking the Hip for the two shows they played here back in the late 80's, early 90's. He negotiated directly with Gord Downey and the thing he remembers most is bickering over the terms as he wanted full pay up front, but my buddy stuck with the policy of half up front, and the other half after the show. My buddy explained that they were burned by no-show bands a couple of times in the past and Gord reluctantly relented. I saw the first show and it was great!
