P85/90D is very quick off the line thanks to instant torque, but it's not the fastest car on the planet as you seem to make it out to be.

Well, 4 seconds to 100 km/h is reasonably quick for the P85 and/or 85D, 90D models.
I agree that at higher speeds the P90DL is the car to own if you like to drop the hammer at 80 MPH.   :popo:

My point is that my S85 with only 350 HP at the wheel is plenty quick, and more than a match for a similarly priced Porsche.

It depends how much you paid.  Because you can get a 911 Twin Turbo used for I bet what you paid...and it will run away and hide from your Tesla.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

TVR was doing that 20 years ago with the Cerbera.  Fits a family of four.

Links to recent sales of such would be welcome, I'd review and compare and get back to you.
Then again, I don't see that as a practical option for a family, but you knew that already.
Remember, we traded in a 300HP+ Mercedes SUV, so it's not like I was in the market for a pure sports car...

996 911 Turbos can be had for cheap - around $40K.  They're "slow" compared to newer models but can still rip to 100km/h in about 4sec and roll-on is very strong.

The Porsche is sold.  Now he plans on selling the Wrangler since it doesn't work well for carting around both his 3 children AND clients.

He also wants to go to a 2-car garage rather than the 3.  With the Wrangler sale, RIP manual transmissions for yet another enthusiast.  He doesn't want the next one to be stick even if it is available.

His wife still has the 2016 Yukon Denali.

The Porsche/Wrangler replacement needs to haul hockey gear and 5 passengers.

He really liked the S7, but it comes with only 4 seats.  The A7 TDI would have been great, but, y'know, diesel.

The standard A7 is really nice and I'm still steering him that way.  Lots of other options were floated, but none of them exciting.  The Cayenne is the logical choice, but eww... And the other boss has a Cayenne GTS.

Poor guy is really regretting selling the Porsche.

I feel dirty. And not the "hey baby let's experiment" kind of dirty.  :-[

It's too bad the Panamera has such a pronounced transmission tunnel.

Is an E-class too downmarket?

He also wants to go to a 2-car garage rather than the 3.

Tell him even a lowly retired-teacher has a three car garage.  That's far too much of a step-down in life...

Ew.  Cayenne?

Tesla Model X, seats up to 7, ultimate "look at me" coolness factor with the Falcon doors.
Go for P90DL for 3.2 seconds to 100km/h, unmatched in the SUV world.

Build quality is suspect, the falcon doors leak, falcon doors glitchy etc.

Maybe in a couple of years once the bugs are worked out.
