I really like this colour which we don't get over here.

That's okay, 'cause it's ugly.   :rofl2:

(Reminds me of skanky nail polish.)

Keep in mind that the "Individual" paint BMW offers in Canada is limited to a few colours. I think you can also pay more and get your choice of many more colors.

Yes, that's the case. I went with one of the regular "Individual" colors on my M3, but others could pay even more and ask for colors that are even more expensive. Each of those latter requests have to go to head office in Germany, and could be approved or not, and could have different prices. It's actually ///M Division that handles the "Individual" requests. You can ask for other modifications besides paint color. You can really spend a fortune customizing.

Originally, I considered ordering a non-regular Individual color, and got it approved by headquarters. The challenge with those unusual colors is it's hard to see what it looks like on that particular car. And sometimes a color that looks great on one model doesn't look great on another. Since I had only seen pictures of one car with that color on the net, I went with one of the regular Individual colors that I got to see in person (on the same car).

With the Golf R, I actually prefer it in white. I lived 6 months next to Wolfsburg so I had no shortage of daily viewings of multiple Golf Rs in various colours and somehow the white just did it for me best.

Since you guys brought up the M4, I prefer it in Sakhir Orange (890 €). Played with the German site Individual colours and still liked the non Individual colour more. (totally off-topic, but mine came up to 82 220€ with the DKG)

Strangely enough my wife doesn't like it either.  She actually prefers white on the R and many other cars lately.

If i can talk her into buying a new car this year the R will be at the top of the list for a test drive.  She thinks it's too plain looking, but I figure a test drive will bring her around.  :)

i like the colour...oddly enough, when we bought our Sorento, my wife's 2nd choice colour (my first choice) was "Sangria Red", which looks like a similar shade.

she really wanted the dark blue though...which is fine, as it does look nice too.

That is a thousand times better than that purple VW abomination.  I don't consider them similar at all.  :)  It's really hard to argue colours, though.  To each their own!

they are a different colour, for sure..i just thought they looked kind of similar, that's all...like a "wine" colour...the VW is a purple shade whereas the Kia is more of a red tone, but both have that "wine" shade to them (at least, IMO).

Yeah I much prefer the Pretorias as well.

Now they just need to add a sunroof.

The Pretorias wheels are gorgeous. Lucky 2016.5 buyers.

Wow these wheels are gorgeous.

I hope the DSC/ABS system in the Golf has the brake drying feature, because my experience with "thin spoke, wide opening" wheel designs in the rain is that they accumulate water quite copiously on the brake discs. Yes, I know everything gets wet but it lends itself more frequently to those moments where you step on the brakes to slow and nothing happens until the rotors heat up sufficiently to dry....and then stop.

My prior X3 I had summer wheels/tires with similar design and I had to tell myself to lightly apply the brakes every 5-10km or so on the autoroutes. There were those times where I stepped on the brake @ 100km/h halfway down an exit ramp and nothing happened...... :o

That sounds exactly like the brakes on my 2009 GTI. Scared the :censor: out of me.

The wheels on my GTI are pretty open. I've had them for six summers and have never noticed that (or maybe I just expect it and step on the pedal harder when it's raining? ??? ). Anyway, I don't ever recall being caught by surprise. My GTI has no brake drying feature, AFAIK.

Yeah I've never felt that ever....  Even on the track at trace speed on torrential rain.   Hit brakes car stops as expected.

Tires hit their limit first

I think this would be less an issue on the track actually, as the brakes are quite hot from use and get applied quite frequently.

Whereas in my case, it's usually driving for extended periods (think roadtrip) with zero brake application 100-130km/h. Same car with winter setup (original OE wheels) exhibited almost none of it under similar circumstances. It is actually mentioned as a precaution in the owner's manual as well.

No matter, no longer an issue anymore on my side since none of the cars/wheels we have have such large gaps in the wheel design. But perhaps just something to think about with the above mentioned wheel design for the Golf R. That, and perhaps road hazard damage......
