Volvo V60 - changes for 2016
« on: April 20, 2015, 02:51:26 pm »
I sometimes cruise through the Swedespeed site and came upon the discussion of changes for 2016.  The takeaway is

You want 5-cylinder + AWD -> only choice is the CC
You want 6-cylinder + AWD -> only choice is the R-design

Neither of the above come in anything approaching a stripped-down base, and both would not have made it onto my radar as too expensive or gussied-up.

Not  that the non-raised base T5/AWD V60 was cheap, but at least it was in the ballpark and existed.  So .. for now .. another non-raised, (sorta) non-high-end-spec wagon bites the dust.  I guess we shall see if it re-appears once Volvo can fit AWD with the E-drive engine

(this is for the U.S., but I'd be surprised if it was any different for Canada .. we'll see)

Interesting. I haven't been on SS for a long time now. Any talk on when the 4 cyl AWD version is coming out.

There is supposed to be a S60 twin-engine version (the hybrid...so you get electric motors in the rear and Drive E gasoline in the front) heading to China. So it must be possible for the V60 too, though its not the AWD you may have expected.

The thing sells in such small volumes I'm not overly surprised. I think Volvo is just biding time until SPA is everywhere.

I also think the only version of the V60 that makes good sense is the full beans T6 AWD car. Pricing them out the T6 was only $400 more than a T5 AWD at equal equipment! So it was a no brainer. If you're talking FWD then I think you have a think really hard about the Golf wagon which rides a much newer platform and I'd be tempted to take the Golf.

Sometimes I wish I got the R-Design...but I like the Bor wheels too much and saved a few bucks. In any case I am quite happy with my 15.5 T6.

2016 Volvo Updates Announced: New T6 AWD for S60, V60 and XC60, Plus CarPlay for XC90

http://www.autoevolution.com/news/2016-volvo-updates-announced-new-t6-awd-for-s60-v60-and-xc60-plus-carplay-for-xc90-101214.html

If I'm reading this right, the V60 will get the new T6 engine (super + turbo) and AWD. I guess that means a longer wait for the new car. Interesting that they were able to make it work on the current platform.

Sadly it sounds like the I6+turbo is going to be gone very soon.

Hmm so does this mean they are getting the 8 speed box too....now I kind of wish I had waited but all indications pointed to no Drive-E until 2017-18.

Bummer. Oh well.
