Driver Training: BMW Advanced Driver Training
« on: August 15, 2013, 06:28:58 am »

Prepare for eight hours of fun heresy. You may be surprised just how little you know. A day of advanced training with BMW's instructors won't change a life of habits but should at least alert you to them.

It would be interesting to know what making a course like this mandatory for new drivers ( and perhaps requiring refresher courses every 10 years or so) would do to accident stats in Canada.

It would be nice if this was considered Standard Driver Training. I know the NB government approved training my daughter took to reduce the time with a learner's permit before being able to take her test was pretty basic. (long on classroom theory short on practical application)

Sounded like a great training.  It's a shame that better driver's education isn't mandatory.

I remember seeing it on Top Gear that you can only get your license in one of the Scandinavian countries if you can demonstrate to the examiner that you can lose control, do a controlled slide and bring it back under control...

I think it should manditory too and every one should be re tested on simular course every ten years.  People that don't pass don't drive. Should help with road congestion too and improve transit rider numbers.

My wife and son participated in a BMWCCC / Tire Rack Steet Survival School last fall.  It's a great value at $75, with classroom sessions and 4 hours of seat time (doing drills / auto crossing using your own car).

There's one being held in Brampton, on November 3 (for drivers with a G2 or G license).

Don't fight it.  The sooner you get it the better.

Missus, FIL, and I did the BMW driver training a few years' back.  The FIL actually completed all of their courses (and spent beyond a pretty penny on it - but that's when he owed a 528, then two 335's - before the fuel pumps blew faster than <insert stupid famous female's name here...or Bieber - god I hate that kid>).

The experience was invaluable, and although it seems like a pricey endeavour, it seemed way too cheap for the experience we get (clarity: I would have spent more on it).

I'd love it to be mandatory, but I'd sooner see snow tires being mandatory over mass driver training (my opinion).

...still, I think driver's testing needs to be massively more restrictive - driving is a privilege, not a right.
