My Dad spent many hours on the road when he worked for the Feds (Fisheries and Oceans) -- he had to travel all around Newfoundland to oversee the use of funds for harbour upgrades.  His favorite vehicle was an early 00's Suburban.  It made a great second office -- he loved that the armrest was so huge he could just pop the laptop into the storage bin it housed.

My point is that if this guy is spending so much time on the road that the vehicle is a second office he needs space, i think that full size sedan or SUV is the way to go.  Ford Flex is popping into my head right now...

I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

My father worked for the Feds a long time ago and had to drive to remote communities in the north and had a "company" Suburban.  Amazing vehicle for long journeys.  Four wheel drive, but long wheel base for comfort and huge room for people/stuff.

The only bummer today about a Yukon XL is the poor fuel economy.  Otherwise they're as sublime as many flagship class lux sedans.

I'll pile on to the Suburban being very comfortable for long drives. Plus it can readily carry a briefcase.

Driving home today after dropping the kid at work I was reminded of how sweet my Highlander is on the highway.  Quiet, smooth, lots of passing power, and room to spare for us.

Last thought on this question.
Used 2013 Maximas are pretty inexpensive and they have pow,are quiet and have a great driver's seat

Probably true about the seats. Nissan calls them IIRC zero gravity. If that is high up on the list, once a used car dealer (he wasn't selling me anything, I was to him) told me Volvo have got the best seats in business. A fresh used Volvo wagon (good for sales samples) can be found at an attractive price point. I'm not sure how reliable they are though...

OP should take the desired vehicles for long highway test drives.  That'll be a good test of his body type and seat comfort compatibility.

I would take a look at the 2015 Legacy AWD 2.5i Touring, good value for what you are getting. If you were looking for larger car, I would look at the Avalon or Impala. I have been driving a company supplied Ford Edge SEL AWD for the last 3 years and its one of the best drivers I have had in a long time. My new corporate supplied car which was just ordered is the new Subaru Outback Touring. So far I have not heard anything negative about the Outback from people I work with, other than the wind noise above 100k is noticeable.
