The latest:. http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/business/volkswagen-emissions-settlement-1.3649369

still pretty vague about the fix.  I would not want he fix anyways.  Just give me $5,000 and I keep the car as is   ;D

Since my car was about 50 days old on September 18th, looks like I'm in for the full 7k$  :)

1. Why are you assuming you get more money for owning the car for less time?

2. I wouldn't make any assumptions for what in Canada based on what happens in the U.S.

US details are out and ...

1. The more recent and expensive the car, the larger the compensation is. My car is shown as 6500-7400 in the US chart (varies with trim, miles, options, ...).

2. VWoC did a 180 and now says the US deal may not be the Canuck deal  >:( - details on July 29th only  :banghead:

That sucks that VWoC pulled that BS.  If the deal isn't similar, I say boycott them.  The best punishment for them is not buying their product(s).

I find companies tend to be more consumer-friendly in the U.S. than in Canada when it comes to these things.  :(

Fun fact about my car: if you decide to floor it while cruising at 150, it'll still push you into the seat

So the Golf is begging (literally, bong-bong and on-screen message) for its 12-month service (odo is at 13,000km), and with no news from VWoC on buy-backs or other $$$, I figured I will splurge for a service that will be paid for with VW's "white mastercard", the 500$ card us TDI owners got for exclusive use at a dealership. First time at the dealer for paid service, will see how it goes.

Had a meeting in the East end, finished at 10 am and filled up the Golf with Petro-Can diesel. $1.019 a litre, vs $1.149 for regular. Filling up resets the tripmeter, so off we go for a cross-town highway run during the only "free" hour of Montreal traffic. Drove around speed limit, traffic-permitting. 32km later, I park at the airport. Tripmeter reads 3.6 l/100km. FAGC, with "A" for "Amazing"  :)

700km+ road trip to Ottawa last weekend. We did the tourist thing, hiking the Gatineau Park and walking around the capital. Filled-up at 88.9 cents per litre on the way back, trip avg 4.7 l/100km with cruise at 125 km/h, traffic around town and compression braking down the Gatineau hills  :)

It's official: my car earned its fgc status.

No more heat being sent to my very cold feet. Closing all vents, choosing "floor" and spinning the fan to the max one hears lots of air stuck in a closed box. The dealer is booked for the 27th, so we'll see if the car is to fault, or if I have a dead mouse in there somewhere. It's a real possibility, with the Golf often parked for weeks at a time in remote press fleet parking lots.

How does the Passat compare to the Golf in terms of driving dynamics and interior quality?

My 4th VW in 4 weeks: 2017 #PinkBeetle (now on Trader), my TDI, 2017 Golf Comfortline TSI (upcoming Trader feature) and now 2016 Passat Comfortline (service loaner). All three gas cars had the same drivetrain: 1.8 TSI with 6-speed auto. For some reason, the Passat is the most tossable of the bunch, and the one that felt the lightest on its feet, despite being the biggest and heaviest. Great turning radius for such a long limo, excellent visibility, high-mounted rear-view mirror doesn't hide cars or pedestrians at intersections, thin A-pillars. Maybe it's a bit soft, but on our roads it was damn-near perfect. Steering lighter than the Golf, but as precise. Engine sounded better here than in the two smaller cars. Honestly, I'm having more fun with this than the Golf TSI.

Great IP design, simple and elegant, a tribute to early '70s S-Class Benzes. Poor storage, door panels look cheaper than Golf's. Excellent seats.

So what's the issue with the no heat?

The motor that controls the vent flaps was defective. Replaced under warranty, as were some one-time use fasteners that hold the dashboard together. Of course, a mechanic rubbed components against the bottom of the leather steering Wheel rim, creating a ripple on the bottom section  >:( Picture sent to service advisor, waiting for a remedy, as VW lawyers like to say.

She's mine. Took VW Credit Canada out of the picture, one thing cleared before the settlement gets under way.

Hey BP, This is your Golf. Dude, have you taken a look at a calendar lately? It's SUMMER!! Canada Day is next weekend and I'm still wearing my Blizzaks! Come on, man, other FGCs are tilting their grilles at me. This is embarassing!

Hey, if you want decreased handling performance, increased stopping distance, and significantly increased tire wear, power to your laziness ;)
