Update:
The Bluetooth integration on the Forester seems not as well thought out as the GLI. When I paired a Blackberry Z10 with the GLI it automagically picked up the contact list, and one was able to dial members of the Z10's contact list by voice. With the Foz it looks like it cannot automagically read the contact list of the Z10, one has to transfer contacts one-by-one over to the phonebook on the Foz itself via a Bluetooth transfer...

Consider yourself lucky it didn't come with an 8-track player.

  • the paint quality seems cheap, hard to explain but the GLI seemed like it had "better" paint
I'd show you what Lady Noto's '11 FXT's paint looks like, but I can't bring myself to photograph it (makes me cry).

With that being said, it's all induced by her overzealous snow brush usage in the winter, and all things considered, I'd say the paint has held up remarkably well, actually.

Congrats on the new ride, and good for you for going with the Touring trim!

How would you FXT owners out there assess the power for daily driving...especially highway merging, passing, etc?

Well, Lady Noto's has the EJ255, and I'd assess power as effing plenty.  It feels every bit as fast, if not faster, than the 268hp, 325lb-ft RX400h I am also accustomed to (likely due to being ~1,000lbs lighter).  Trust me, it's not left wanting for power at all.  I love it.

Too early to tell with the "FA20 DIT" or "FA20F", still "breaking in" and becoming familiar with it. It's my wife's DD and she thinks it's more than enough. I'll report back later with my opinion. Although the magazine acceleration figures seem to indicate it won't have a problem.

I LOL'd at the 8-track comment, thanks  :D

Not a problem at all.  Had one for a week a few years ago, and it was very difficult not to drive it like I stole it.  It just wanted to go-go-go faster-faster-faster.  Soo-ba-WOO-HOO!   :D

Wife's impressions: The wife made it through her 1st winter with the FozXT without getting stuck. She's pretty happy about that. This winter was kind of low with the overall snowfall quantity, however she made it through that 50CM storm that we had without getting stuck (about 10 cars got stuck in front of or near our house, 3 at one time at a T-junction intersection, no idea if they had snow tires on etc.). I drove it a couple of times, it feels quite "stable" during snow storms and the immediate aftermath.

Time to clean it up and switch back to the all-season tires.

Simply because my wife has never driven it  ;)

It was entertaining to watch, car after car, minivan etc. All getting stuck in the same spots, corner near our place and the T-junction just up the road. Also saw people stuck at the roundabout entrances, cars backing up forming long lines behind them etc.

Looking nice!

Some comments I have with mine vs some of yours:

The new headunit works fine with my BB Z30, it will even read freaking text messages to me.

The paint seems way better than my '09, much thicker, so it seems anyway.

Any issues with yours so far?  How many kms now?

How would you FXT owners out there assess the power for daily driving...especially highway merging, passing, etc?

No issues for me, very happy with the power.

My wife, her brother, our 7 year old son were going to a beach here in Ottawa. My wife was waiting to turn left, she had the green light. Waiting, waiting, then the oncoming lanes were clear so she made the turn, still with a green light. Perpendicular or cross-traffic had the red light. Old man in a Honda Accord came ripping through the intersection. He said my wife ran the red light. He wasn't hurt either, so that's good. Two witnesses disagreed with him about the events and told the same story that my wife and her brother did. Son went to CHEO to ensure he was okay. Wife is tired now, the boy is his usually bouncy self.

I have not seen the FozXT yet, it's a long weekend too, so it looks like we can collect our belongings on Tuesday. Looks like major front-end damage, both fenders, both front airbags, not sure what else.

Really happy nobody was hurt.  :)

Insurance said the best bet against this we-say/they-say kerfuffle is a dash cam. Looks like I'm going shopping for two...
