What's with the crazy colour scheme on the shot of the front left wheel?

Other than the top what are the main differences between the Boxster S and Cayman S?

Love this car in the yellow and red!  I could see me picking up a used one a few years down the road when it comes time to replace the S2000.

Like I needed another distraction on a sunny Friday morning.....

Very nice!!!  Were they all PDK's, or were there some manuals there too?  I like the updated interior and dash.  I've driven my friend's '01 a few times.  It's just so nice to drive.  Chuck it into a corner or an on ramp, give it the beans and it just hangs on.  Everything just feels so right in that car.  I'd love to try this new one sometime.

One of close friends has a 00 Boxster (non S) and it certainly is a lot of fun to drive.  It's not as quick as my S2000 but the chassis is impressive.  I too would love to drive one of these new ones, with a manual of course.  I would have zero interest owning one with a PDK.

My friend's is a non S as well, with the Tiptronic.  Mine would have to be a manual as well.   :drive:

Cayman S typically has a bit more power. They have to justify its higher price somehow. ;)

Personally, I would take a Boxster S over a Caymen S.  The reason being is that I love having a drop top and it would be a requirement for me.  I've never checked, but what are prices typically like on used two year old Boxsters?

Awesome review Jonathan! not some one page copy/paste cw links. I really really really want my wife to trade in her S2000 for this car.

Nice Car and arguably more inherently balanced than it's older brother. Mid engine vs rear engine.

Got to love this Destination: $1,085

Always hated this padded add in, that being said it's funny how the German built Porsche has a lower Destination charge than a Toyota Corolla bought and built in Cambridge Ontario. Don't even try comparing U.S.-Can PDI/Freight rates unless you really want to feel frustrated. ???

I'm not sure if I would want my only sporty car to be a convertible.

I do think the combo of a 911 coupe and a Boxster S would be amazing though.

Great write-up!  I love this car except the rear lip of the spoiler and the way it's all tied together in the rear.  I've always wanted to drive one of these.

Boxsters hold their value quite well. A quick search on AutoTrader finds prices for 2009 - 2011 models between $55,000 and $80,000 depending on trim, options, and mileage. This one is a 2009 with 10,000km is only $43,000 - seems like a stupidly good deal, comparatively.

Outstanding cars, though. I'd love a Boxster one day...

Was the el cheapo one in an accident or something?

I've been a big fan of Boxster's since I drove one (test drove a 2011 Boxster S, PDK). This generation seems even more awesome.

For the person who asked,
Caymans: Same cars except the hardtop (and therefore, greater structural rigidity) and more powerful engines.

If I were a bit older I'd love to replace the Z4 with one of these.

Although I'm usually a fan of round headlights, this latest generation face looks much better to my eye than the 987 for some reason.

I'm certain that most won't be a fan of this colour of interior of the new Boxster, but I totally dig it!  Sorry for the high res, couldn't find anything lower.

I don't think that is a new colour it looks similar to what I have seen before.  Cool thing with Porsche is you can customize to your hearts content.

Oh yeah, I know the colour isn't new, just saying this colour on the new 2013 interior is pretty darn nice.  :)

Julie: it doesn't say, but I'd be suspicious. Super-low mileage and $10,000 less than the nearest equivalent model? Good chance it's an insurance write-off, imo.

FTFY.

A pal of mine has a little brokerage business and sourced a Boxter S for another friend a few years ago, here's his pricing story...

"...The boxter was a Boxster S, the thing was a rocket. Bought it in the spring of 2010...it was 2006 with 9000 kms. It had 6200 miles when I brought it into canada. I think I paid $34K usd. I sold it to him for 41K cad that’s with shipping, inspections and of course Porsche had to change the speedo on it ($2500) before they gave me a recal clearance letter. When he went to register it they valued the car at 55K cad and he had to fight with them to pay tax on the bill of sale value instead of the assessed value."

It's very tempting with cars like Porsche's to import, I agree. I researched the same thing for my incoming Bimmer. I know Porsche Canada in the last couple years(?) reduced the prices of their new cars and offer things like attractive extended warranties on their pre-owned cars to compete with potential cross-bordering shopping.

After some research, my assessment is that it's definitely worth researching (perhaps researching seriously only close to the time you're thinking of potentially importing because of possible rule changes, market value changes, etc.) and then deciding on the better option for you. My general leaning though is importing with cars like this if you're going pre-owned...
