So if they're going to give you $5000 and a buyback of $13,000 should I immediately buy all used TDI models priced below $18,000?

You did didn't you?  And had them make it look like a V8 Mustang?

I am starting to think this may actually bankrupt VW. I had no idea VW signed up for a deal that would not protect them against lawsuits from US states - and that's exactly where things are headed!

Germany will bankroll it.  Nothing will sink VW, it would cost the German govnt too much in benefits/welfare.

Yep, much like the US bankrolled the banks back in 2008 & then the auto manufacturers a year or 2 later.

I think Musk got it right. Instead of VW now spending billions on the retrofit "solution" let them walk but spend the money in US on hybrid/EV R&D. A weeny Beetle pollutes too much? Let them drive behind a diesel cube van and see what happens to that opinion.

Exactly.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

way more than its currently going to cost them  ;)  They can't avoid the recall no matter what they do.
What about:
- factories
- dealers
- inventory

It wouldn't be as easy as when Suzuki did it - and they didn't have a massive recall problem on their head!

I believe VW sale world wide until June  is 2.4 million, USA sales are 240,000 about 10%
Fack the dealers , factories they can sell or walk away, Hyundai and GM did in Quebec
It would be interesting to see what the cost would be
