Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

thanks for the update!

sent to my wife...  we'll likely get one this fall.

have you had 4 people in the vehicle?
if so, how was the power with it loaded?

the only complaint I've ever heard is some say it lacks power.
(saying you'd like more power is a little different from lacking though)

Just this past Monday had to drive my Dad and 2 brothers to Scarborough & back.  It's just fine with 4 on board -- merges no problem, cruises fine, etc.
I personally just prefer 300 hp rather than 148...  ;D  But the 'trek gets the job done.
If your wife is moving from Fiat 500, the Crosstrek will feel like a rocket (well, so will anything..) - the 500 is by far the slowest car off the line i've ever driven.

Blotter, What other 4 cylinder cars have you owned?

before the truck...

Toyota Matrix and Yaris combo

Rav4 V6 and Echo combo

99 Forester
92 Jetta
84 Nissan Stanza

it was hard going from the Rav to the Matrix.
but like Weels said, the Fiat is the most underpowered car I've ever driven.

I'd love 300HP too, but, as long as merging is good enough - the Crosstrek shall do!

Forgot about your Matrix.  Considering it was a compact with about 125hp, similar torque, and weighs 2750lbs.  The Crosstrek has 148hp, similar torque, and weighs 3200lbs.  So 450lbs heavier, with 20hp more.  So it shouldn't feel much different than the Matrix...

Interesting... I'm surprised the Crosstrek doesn't get more torque.

I can live with that..  Can't wait for a test drive!

I believe the Crosstrek's #'s are 148hp / 145 tq
The hybrid bumps those #'s up a little, but i think Subaru has sold about 3 of them

We've driven our Corolla loaded to the max with four people over mountain passes and it was fine. Not a rocket but no cause for concern.

Did 5 people + gear in a base Legacy wagon (120hp?) and had no issues. Had 5 people + gear + roof box loaded in my Protege5 and had no troubles. Now have only 2 people in the GTI with +1 tune and some days I want more power.  ;D

Weels,

Do you have the Xenon HID lights?  If so, how does the reflector style in the XV compare to the more standard projector types seen in many other vehicles?

Lady Noto's Fozzie XT has the multi-reflector HIDs and they work wonderfully.  It's a different pattern, but the illumination is solid.  No complaints.

Can't speak for the Crosstrek, though.

Yes, has HID's.  They're standard on the Limited and Sport models.  Might be on the base model for 2015 - not sure
They are better than reg bulbs, but not as good as the ones on my old Acura TL.  My previous Volvo S60 didn't had HID's
I don't drive a lot on dark back roads, so can't comment really on how well they work, but do prefer them

Subaru should ditch all the lights and go LED line wide.  Given that they were one of the last makers to offer HIDs on anything, I imagine they'll probably be one of the last to go LED.

The new WRX has LED low-beams on Sport and Sport tech packages.

Legacy lineup has HIDs with projectors (not multi-reflector as is current in the Impreza lineup, save for the WRX/STi).

@Weels.  I re-read your review and I'm really liking the Crosstrek.  I'm leaning towards a third vehicle for our garage as the TT gets a bit more tired (think Sea King helicopter type of maintenance) and I really like the Crosstrek.  The bang for the buck is amazing on this car.  Either that grey colour or the orange would be great.  Of course I'm kinda looking at the Nissan 370Z so you can tell my mind's all over the place.

Thanks for the update weels, glad it's going well with the Crosstrek. I sat in one at an autoshow and really like the size and practicality.

LOL.  I know what that's like!
I dig the Khaki - I would have picked that colour, but Ms. Weels hates it a bunch.

Nice to see you back Julie!  We are happy with it - for us it is Goldilocks size... just right.
