Delorean DMC-12? A car that made your list because of a movie. Oh well our local boy did well, Michael J Fox, attened a nearby school, by the car and the motion picture.

One car that I believe was far more significant was the best selling roadster of all time introduced in 1989

I agree the Miata is an icon (I'm biased), but even though it came out in 1989, I would say it is more of a 1990's icon.

Introduced in mid '89 as a 1990, I wouldn't consider a Miata an icon of the 80's.  An icon of the 90's however, absolutely.

The Testarossa still is a damn nice looking car after all these years!  I'm a little surprised that the M3 wasn't on there.

I was thinking about the MR2 as well, since I owned one, just wasn't sure it would be consider an icon or not.

And a couple more 80s icons.    :)

The list needs the Audi 5000 and Ford Taurus. They were game changers when it came to the use of aerodynamics in auto design.

The Ferrari Testosterone has really not aged well. You can really see that in the prices they get now versus the 512 Berlinetta Boxer.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

The XR4Ti, Grand National and 959 I would still own and drive to this day. The IROC......come on, let your mullet fly.
Lighten up Francis.....

Based on the list I'm glad the 80s are over. A phrase rarely heard: "I wish I had a 1980s ________ ."

Corolla GTS. Wait I'll just get the Scion FRS.

The 959 was obviously Porsche's halo car but even the 911 Turbo was pretty famous. You know, the one with the big tail on the back and the black rally wheels...

Porsche made GREAT cars in the 1980's.  The 1987- 911's are still fun cars and were built like tanks.

A friend of mine from my PCA days is selling his gorgeous black 1987 911, and I'd love to buy it.  $22K?  Really?  Can you get that for those old cars?  I won't pay that, but I bet he'll find a buyer.

They didn't mention the Hyundai Pony, there a 80s icon from a unknown that rose up to be Canada's best selling import in the blink of a eye.
Don't get going on how crappy it was, it could take one hell of a beating and keep going with its solid axel  leaf springs in the back.

No, actually it was crappy. I know 2 former owners personally that watched their Ponys burn to the ground.
