Replacing Mrs. C4's Tucson
« on: March 31, 2015, 06:14:53 am »
Hello Ladies and Gents,

Im Looking to get a few suggestions on replacement vehicles for our Tucson, there's nothing wrong with it. we have just outgrown it as a family. We're thinking something along Ford Flex size.(not a pretty vehicle but very comfy and enormous) . No Mini vans. We dont tow anything , and we make weekend trips up to the cottage and some extra room for my 110lb furbaby would be nice.

Unlike many people I have always thought the Flex was not bad looking considering its size.    I saw a brand new one yesterday...looks like a Range Rover now from the front.     It has that old Volvo 245 wagon shape which makes it far more practical than the pseudo wagons with sloping windows.  Just from doing build and price occasionally it seems that there are many powertrain options ( unlike that old Volvo) which is a good thing.

The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

Flex sounds like a great vehicle for you, lots of space, awd and a decent powertrain.
Lighten up Francis.....

In the category, Santa Fe XL is a good choice that gets many positive reviews, including ones from Consumer reports.

But if he doesn't like the way it looks, it's a non-starter.

What about Chevy Traverse, Dodge Durango or Toyota Highlander?  As mentioned, Santa Fe XL wouldn't be the worst choice...

If you're looking for 3 rows of seats and storage, your options are limited.  Either full size SUV or minivan.  Full size SUVs your looking at around $60,000 starting out, plus rather poor fuel economy.  Of course you could get a minivan for half that and save on fuel.  Or you could adjust your expectations.

The all new 2016 Homda Pilot is arriving this summer.  Current model MSRP starts at $35K ($5K more than the Odyssey).

I dont mind the looks plus it really ticks all the boxes ,its just not the best looking vehicle out there. I will research your suggestions...the only yota that would interest me is the sequoia but those cost an arm and a leg.

If you like the Flex, but not the styling, the Explorer is essentially the same vehicle, but with conventional styling and less length.
