Road Trip: 2013 Jaguar XJ AWD to New York City

Lesley found the Jaguar XJ an excellent Road Trip vehicle, but not all things from England are quite as refined or tolerable.

A beautiful car... glad you got out of the danger zone in one piece!

I'd love to take a road trip to New York, but the wife won't do it!!

The 7 Series, S Class and A8 will probably all have better residuals, technology and practicality in this segment, but I'd take the XJ any day of the week. It just has so much more style and presence, and is a rarer sight on the roads. Actually I'd take the new Quattroporte when it comes out, but that's a different story.

I agree the Jag is a stylin' ride. Although the marque has not yet regained all its former stature in my view. The brand still smells a bit like lousy quality and financial distress. Nevertheless, the come back continues.

Nice review and a nice car, but I still can't accept the generic styling as a Jag.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Personally, I'm a bigger fan of the XK. It looks absolutely sublime from any angle. One of the nicest set of haunches in all of autodom.
However, as a cushiony cruiser, this was superb.

Great article and the Jag is quite beautiful.....but id still take a S class or A8 before the XJ.....though there is something about having a Jag

Generic? I can see it being described as controversial or opinion-splitting or not traditional jag lines, but not generic. Audi is the worst when it comes to generic styling of their sedans these days. The A4, A6 and A8 are basically small, medium and large versions of the same design.

Nice review and a nice car, but I still can't accept the generic styling as a Jag.

Completely agreed. Both the XJ and XK are superb. After spending a road trip to Kingston, ON in the 2013 XF 3.0, I'm a huge fan of that one as well.

There's nothing that identifies it as being a Jaguar. It could just as likely come from Maserati or Lexus or one of the Germans.

Audi's look like each other sure, but they can't be mistaken for anything but Audis.

I've always had a soft spot for Jags. I wish they'd take another stab at a 3 series/C class competitor.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

I guess this is one of those cars that it would be gauche to ask about the fuel economy

It's rated at 13L/100 km city, and 8.1 highway.  Surprisingly, with a light foot, it's not that hard to achieve decent mileage in such a big car.
Here's a shot of my average after a day's mixed driving: one that included grocery getting, some highway driving and about an hour of hilly, twisty country roads.
I regularly averaged 10.1 per day, and as low as 9.8.
